Job description

Contingent upon contract award to BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems and subsequent task orders., BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems (SMS) is seeking a Systems Engineer who is highly skilled in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to lead the implementation of digital engineering strategies and architectural modernization. This role focuses on the evolution of system architectures, transitioning from legacy modeling standards to SysML v1.x and v2.0 frameworks, and developing complex system-of-systems models. You will be responsible for integrating MBSE into comprehensive engineering workflows and deploying model and software artifacts via CI/CD pipelines into secure cloud architectures. Your work will ensure that mission-critical capabilities are designed, validated, and delivered with agility and technical rigor.

This role is pivotal to the advancement of Digital Engineering across the organization. By migrating legacy models to modern standards and developing formal verification frameworks, you enable the achievement of higher semantic interoperability and more accurate system performance predictions. Your ability to bridge the gap between high-level architectural models and simulation ecosystems ensures that complex systems are validated, secure, and scalable.

The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution.

What You ll Do:

  • SysML Migration & Modernization: Lead the migration of SysML models, implementing solutions for deprecated capabilities and benchmarking enhanced features to maximize model reuse.
  • Advanced Model Development: Design and develop novel SysML reference designs and system-of-systems models to support evolving mission needs and R&D initiatives.
  • Cloud-Native Integration: Develop and deploy MBSE software artifacts to secure cloud environments using established CI/CD pipelines.
  • M&S Ecosystem Validation: Maintain and develop methods for validating SysML models within the Modeling & Simulation (M&S) ecosystem, ensuring seamless integration between architectural models and simulation tools.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical strategies connecting multiple projects and customers, acting as a primary point of contact for digital engineering excellence.
  • Workflow Optimization: Analyze and model existing digital engineering workflows to identify MBSE integration opportunities and design efficient interfaces between SysML models and analytic tools.
  • AI Integration: Research and prototype strategies for integrating SysML with AI, specifically modeling AI decision-making processes and ensuring full traceability.
  • Training & Documentation: Create comprehensive user documentation and deliver training sessions to technical personnel on advanced modeling techniques and digital engineering best practices.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 4 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Master s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of related experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active Secret security clearance is required with the ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI.
  • Technical Proficiency:
  • SysML Expertise: Experience with both SysML 1.x and 2.x standards and tools with mastery in creating SysML models in at least one version.
  • Agile Framework: Experience working within Agile frameworks (e.g., Certified ScrumMaster or related experience).
  • MBSE Tools: Mastery of MBSE modeling platform(s) including experience with Cameo Systems Modeler.
  • M&S Tools: Direct experience with Modeling & Simulation (M&S) ecosystems and the integration of MBSE models into simulation environments.
  • Cloud Architecture: Experience with cloud-native patterns and containerization for deployment in secure enclaves., * Software & DevOps: Proficiency in Kubernetes, event-driven architecture, secure software solutions, and modern coding languages such as Python, JavaScript, Java, TypeScript, C , etc.
  • Digital Engineering Standards: Familiarity with Department of Defense (DoW) MBSE best practices and digital engineering strategy.
  • Advanced Agile: Experience leading Scrum teams in a research and development (R&D) environment.
  • Tooling: Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., GitLab) for model management and configuration control.
  • Collaborative Mindset: A commitment to innovation and continual learning, with the ability to pilot new workflows with domain experts.
