Job description

The University of Alcalá is seeking a young researcher to join the TUCAN6-CM project under the Programme for Young Researchers of the Community of Madrid within the ESF+ STEP Programme 2026. The selected candidate will work on the development of distributed edge computing services potentially aligned with 3GPP architecture requirements for future 6G networks. The implementation will be carried out using simulation and emulation tools with the objective of enabling deployment on real IoT devices.

The research activities involve the design, implementation and validation of distributed services for edge computing environments, future 6G communication architectures and IoT systems. The selected researcher will contribute to simulation and emulation tasks, software development, network service validation and deployment-oriented research activities within advanced digital connectivity environments. The work is framed within the TUCAN6-CM research project focused on next-generation communication systems and intelligent distributed infrastructures.

Requirements

The position is offered under a full-time temporary contract (37.5 hours/week) for a duration of 1 year, from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027, with a gross monthly salary of €1,988.01. Applicants must be under 30 years old, registered as unemployed job seekers in Spain at the beginning of the contract and hold a Bachelor's degree. Academic background or previous research experience related to telecommunications, networking, IoT, distributed systems, edge computing, simulation environments or 6G technologies will be positively valued. The selection process will be based on a blind CV evaluation, academic adequacy, specific studies related to the research field and, in case of equivalent candidates, academic transcripts and previous research experience.
