Job description

A client of Insight Global is seeking a hands-on Network Engineer to support a mission-critical DoD data center environment focused on modernizing and upgrading existing network infrastructure. We need a technical leader who can design, troubleshoot, and actively execute network changes, while also helping mentor junior engineers.

You'll be working closely with a highly hands-on Government POC, so strong technical depth and the ability to operate independently are critical.

Design and implement modifications to existing network infrastructure

Support ongoing refresh of routers and switches (modernization effort)

Configure and troubleshoot Cisco routers, switches, and network layers

Work with F5 load balancers (traffic management, configurations, troubleshooting)

Diagnose network issues and quickly identify and resolve root causes

Support routing protocols including BGP and OSPF

Assist with data center operations, including hands-on hardware work (installing, patching, upgrades)

Collaborate with virtualization teams to troubleshoot VMware network-related issues

Create and maintain network documentation and schematics

Help lead and guide junior engineers, providing hands-on mentorship

Support structured execution of network changes (team-based, methodical environment)

Requirements

7+ years of IT experience (network-focused)

4+ years of hands-on experience with:

Cisco routers and switches (core requirement)

F5 load balancers

Strong experience with:

BGP and OSPF routing protocols

Troubleshooting and resolving complex network issues

Experience working in enterprise or data center environments

Comfortable with hands-on work (not just design-plugging in, configuring, fixing)

Ability to mentor junior team members

Active Secret Clearance

Security+ (or equivalent 8570 compliance) Experience with Juniper networking

Familiarity with VMware networking (ability to troubleshoot within environment)

Exposure to AWS or Azure cloud environments

Cisco certifications (CCNA, CCNP, etc.)

Experience supporting DoD or DISA environments

Experience working on infrastructure modernization or upgrade efforts

Familiarity with Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC)-ready infrastructure (nice-to-have, not required)

Benefits & conditions

$150,000 to $180,000 per year annual salary. Benefit packages for this role may include healthcare insurance offerings and paid leave as provided by applicable law
