Job description
A client of Insight Global is seeking a hands-on Network Engineer to support a mission-critical DoD data center environment focused on modernizing and upgrading existing network infrastructure. We need a technical leader who can design, troubleshoot, and actively execute network changes, while also helping mentor junior engineers.
You'll be working closely with a highly hands-on Government POC, so strong technical depth and the ability to operate independently are critical.
Design and implement modifications to existing network infrastructure
Support ongoing refresh of routers and switches (modernization effort)
Configure and troubleshoot Cisco routers, switches, and network layers
Work with F5 load balancers (traffic management, configurations, troubleshooting)
Diagnose network issues and quickly identify and resolve root causes
Support routing protocols including BGP and OSPF
Assist with data center operations, including hands-on hardware work (installing, patching, upgrades)
Collaborate with virtualization teams to troubleshoot VMware network-related issues
Create and maintain network documentation and schematics
Help lead and guide junior engineers, providing hands-on mentorship
Support structured execution of network changes (team-based, methodical environment)
Requirements
7+ years of IT experience (network-focused)
4+ years of hands-on experience with:
Cisco routers and switches (core requirement)
F5 load balancers
Strong experience with:
BGP and OSPF routing protocols
Troubleshooting and resolving complex network issues
Experience working in enterprise or data center environments
Comfortable with hands-on work (not just design-plugging in, configuring, fixing)
Ability to mentor junior team members
Active Secret Clearance
Security+ (or equivalent 8570 compliance) Experience with Juniper networking
Familiarity with VMware networking (ability to troubleshoot within environment)
Exposure to AWS or Azure cloud environments
Cisco certifications (CCNA, CCNP, etc.)
Experience supporting DoD or DISA environments
Experience working on infrastructure modernization or upgrade efforts
Familiarity with Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC)-ready infrastructure (nice-to-have, not required)
Benefits & conditions
$150,000 to $180,000 per year annual salary. Benefit packages for this role may include healthcare insurance offerings and paid leave as provided by applicable law
