Job description

At CGI, we support mission-critical platforms that enable secure, resilient, and high-performing services for some of the UK's most important organisations. We are looking for an experienced Oracle DBA to join our production support team, helping to maintain and optimise business-critical Oracle environments operating within a 24/7 live service model. You will play a key role in ensuring operational stability, resolving complex incidents, and supporting high-availability database services that underpin essential operations. This is an opportunity to work within a collaborative and supportive environment where you can contribute to continuous improvement, influence operational excellence, and further develop your expertise across enterprise-scale infrastructure and support services., In this role, you will provide 2nd and 3rd line database support across critical Oracle 11g production environments operating within a 24/7 live service framework. You will work closely with infrastructure, application support, and service management teams to maintain database availability, optimise system performance, and ensure resilience across high-availability services.

You will contribute to incident resolution, change implementation, disaster recovery readiness, and ongoing service improvement initiatives while helping maintain operational standards aligned to ITIL processes and compliance requirements. Working within a collaborative support environment, you will have opportunities to influence best practices, strengthen service reliability, and support the continuous evolution of enterprise database operations., * Support & Maintain Oracle 11g databases within a 24/7 production environment

  • Diagnose & Resolve live incidents, including major incident response activities

  • Optimise & Tune database performance across critical services

  • Manage & Execute RMAN backup and recovery processes

  • Support & Maintain Oracle Data Guard and disaster recovery capabilities

  • Implement & Govern database changes through controlled change processes

  • Apply & Maintain database security patches and compliance standards

  • Produce & Maintain operational documentation, procedures, and support runbooks

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should have strong hands-on experience supporting Oracle databases within enterprise-scale production environments. You will bring excellent troubleshooting capabilities, experience working within structured support models, and the ability to maintain service stability across high-availability systems operating within demanding live service environments., * Strong hands-on experience supporting Oracle 11g within a 24/7 production support environment

  • Proven expertise in RMAN backup and recovery administration

  • Experience supporting Oracle Data Guard environments

  • Strong SQL and PL/SQL skills

  • Experience with database performance diagnostics and optimisation

  • Experience supporting Oracle on Linux or Unix platforms

  • Familiarity with ITIL-aligned service management processes

  • Experience supporting high-availability or mission-critical systems

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

  • Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical teams

  • Ability to respond effectively during major incidents and live service events

Desirable skills:

  • Experience with Oracle OEM, ASM, or RAC

  • Exposure to newer Oracle database versions

  • Scripting experience using Shell or Python

  • Experience working within regulated or secure environments
