Job description

The Director of Technology provides strategic leadership, planning, implementation, and support for all district technology systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and instructional technology initiatives. This position oversees the operation, maintenance, and advancement of technology resources across the district while ensuring reliable, secure, and effective technology services for students, staff, and administration.

The Director of Technology works collaboratively with district leadership, school administrators, teachers, support staff, vendors, and community stakeholders to align technology operations with the educational and operational goals of the district district., Leadership and Strategic Planning

  • Develop and implement a district-wide technology vision and long-term strategic technology plan.
  • Advise district administration on technology initiatives, infrastructure improvements, budgeting, cybersecurity practices, and technology-related procedures.
  • Lead technology projects including infrastructure upgrades, device refresh cycles, systems modernization, and district-wide technology deployments.
  • Research and recommend emerging technologies that improve operational efficiency, instructional support, safety, and student learning outcomes.
  • Ensure technology systems support district instructional, administrative, and operational priorities.

Infrastructure and Systems Administration

  • Oversee the management and maintenance of network infrastructure including switching, wireless, firewalls, internet connectivity, servers, and related systems.
  • Manage district device ecosystems including student Chromebooks, staff computers, Windows machines, printers, peripherals, and classroom technology.
  • Administer cloud-based platforms and services, including Google Workspace, PowerSchool SIS, and other educational or administrative systems.
  • Monitor system performance, uptime, backups, disaster recovery readiness, and redundancy planning.
  • Coordinate with vendors, service providers, and contractors for implementation, support, repairs, licensing, and maintenance of district technology systems.

Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Compliance

  • Implement and maintain cybersecurity procedures, access controls, and best practices.
  • Monitor network security, endpoint protection, account security, and threat mitigation systems.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable student data privacy, technology, and internet safety requirements, including FERPA and CIPA.
  • Lead incident response and recovery efforts related to cybersecurity events, outages, account compromise, or technology disruptions.
  • Provide cybersecurity awareness, acceptable-use guidance, and technology safety training to staff as appropriate.

Support and Operations

  • Provide leadership and oversight for district technology support operations and helpdesk services.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, software, networking, account, and systems issues.
  • Support classroom technology integration and instructional technology initiatives in partnership with administrators and educators.
  • Coordinate technology deployments, imaging, inventory management, asset tracking, and equipment lifecycle planning.
  • Develop and maintain technology documentation, procedures, standards, and training resources.

Budgeting, Purchasing, and Vendor Management

  • Develop, recommend, and manage district technology budgets and purchasing plans.
  • Coordinate procurement of hardware, software, licensing, subscriptions, warranties, and technology services.
  • Evaluate vendor contracts, service agreements, quotes, and renewal options.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, grant funding, E-rate participation, and sustainable technology investments.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with district administration, principals, teachers, support staff, and students regarding technology needs and initiatives.
  • Communicate technical information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide staff professional development, training, and guidance on district technology tools and procedures.
  • Serve as a district point of contact for technology-related initiatives, systems, vendors, emergencies, and escalated support needs.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Research?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Educational Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.

  • Experience managing enterprise technology systems, networks, infrastructure, and end-user support operations.
  • Experience in a K-12 school technology environment is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of networking, cybersecurity, cloud services, device management, systems administration, and technology support.
  • Demonstrated leadership, project management, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
