Job description

You're our first dedicated software engineer. You're building the engineering foundation from the ground up: production applications and workflows that move conversion, the systems underneath them, and the data infrastructure that ties it together. Wide surface area. You shape the architecture, choose the stack, and own what ships.

We've maxed out what our current systems can do for us. We run on Salesforce, Shopify, Typeform, Talkdesk, Ortto, Kustomer, and a stack of glue between them. The next phase of growth depends on building applications and workflows (patient portals, voice agents, customer-facing apps, AI-assisted operations) that improve customer conversion and help us serve more families.

AI tools are core to how this role works. Claude Code or equivalent is your daily accelerator. We want someone who already builds this way and is excited to push what AI can do for an engineer and an organization.

You'll ship those production apps and workflows. You'll stand up engineering foundations (repos, CI/CD, environments, observability, compliance posture). You'll implement the data warehouse and pipelines under the guidance of our fractional Head of Data Engineering.

This role reports to our Head of Product & Technology. You'll partner closely to scope user needs and define requirements together. From there, building is yours. You'll also work closely with our CEO, VP of Growth, and business systems analyst + collaborate cross-functionally with operations, business development, customer experience, and sales.

Here's what you'll be doing

  • Ship customer-facing apps that move insurance conversion. Patient portal v1, voice agent v1, DME portal v1 (search-driven, role-aware), and revenue cycle integrations. The headline metric is lead-to-bed-sold conversion rate. The work is judged on whether that number moves.
  • Replace Typeform with a custom intake. Route data directly into the warehouse. Tied to faster lead-to-quote turnaround and fewer drop-offs across the DME funnel.
  • Stand up the data warehouse and engineering foundations. A HIPAA-compliant warehouse, ELT pipelines for Salesforce and Shopify, and modeled core entities. Repos, CI/CD, environment separation, Drata, and observability. Tooling choices are yours, made with guidance from our fractional Head of Data Engineering.
  • Ship the first AI-assisted revenue workflow. AI-assisted quote review or DME activation alerts.
  • Set the AI standards. Monitoring, documentation, fallback logic, and quality controls. All production AI workflows meet these standards.

Requirements

  • 5 to 10 years shipping production systems end-to-end.
  • Built and shipped production apps that integrate multiple SaaS platforms or data flows in a regulated environment (healthtech, fintech, PCI/payments, SOC 2, identity/auth, banking, insurance, or crypto).
  • Comfortable implementing data pipelines and warehouse work (SQL, Python, dbt, ELT) under senior data guidance. You don't need to have architected a warehouse from scratch.
  • Strong across both engineering foundations (GitHub, CI/CD, observability, deployment, environments) and the application layer (TypeScript/React, API design, AI tooling).
  • Works fluently with AI coding tools (Claude Code or equivalent). Multiplies output with them rather than using them as a chatbot.
  • Based in Denver or willing to relocate. In-person collaboration with the team matters here.

Strongly preferred:

  • Founding engineer experience at a YC fintech, insurtech, or healthtech.
  • Senior/staff engineer at a Series A-C in regulated industry.
  • HIPAA, SOC 2, payments, checkout, or PCI engineering background.
  • CS degree preferred but not required. Practical shipping experience beats certifications.

Benefits & conditions

  • Total Cash Compensation: $184,000 - $223,000 (base + 12.5% performance bonus)
  • Stock options / equity ownership
  • Health, dental, vision insurance
  • Unlimited PTO and sick/wellness hours
  • 12 paid holidays, paid Volunteer Day, and a Powder Day
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Hybrid: Mon-Wed in Denver HQ; optional remote Thu-Fri
  • Mac, standing desk, premium office setup; work-from-home stipend
  • Paid parking
  • Annual staff retreat
  • Stocked kitchen and bimonthly team lunches at Denver HQ
  • Growth opportunities at a startup with a life-changing mission
