Job description

This is a multi-level posting and will be filled at the appropriate level based on education and experience.

Assists with ensuring telecommunications and IT network infrastructure projects are performed in a timely and prioritized manner, resulting in high quality transmission on network facilities. Provides telecommunications support to all employees.

Responsibilities: Installation and maintenance of telecommunications circuits including phone, carrier, microwave, and other wireless communications systems, two-way radio, analog, digital and fiber optic systems. Read and interpret communications circuit diagrams and equipment documentation. (40%)

Installation and maintenance of local area network and wide area network equipment to ensure connectivity to desktop and remote locations. Basic computer diagnostic skills to support mobile computer and wireless network services. (15-20%)

Assembly, installation, and maintenance of low-voltage AC and DC equipment for small telecommunications enclosures supporting field connectivity and distributed automation devices. Configuration of transport and network routers, switches, and firewalls for wide area network deployment. (15%)

Support of all related systems associated with telecommunications including data devices, network equipment, telemeter devices and common equipment such as central radio dispatch equipment, radio consoles and other specialty phone devices. Provide basic support for remote terminal units in substations. (10%)

Configure and apply templates to routers, switches, and other TCP/IP network equipment. (5-10%)

Provide technical input to assist in the development of project planning. (5-10%)

Provide project consulting to telecom engineers. (0-5%)

Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (0-5%)

Requirements

Two-year degree in telecommunications, data networking, computer science, electronics, or equivalent work experience. (Typically two years of additional related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a two year degree.), Two-year degree in telecommunications, data networking, computer science, electronics, or equivalent work experience. Two years of experience networking/telecommunications or related field, or has specialized network/utility credentials, or can demonstrate an advanced knowledge in these areas.

Sr. Network Technician:

Two-year degree in telecommunications, data networking, computer science, electronics, or equivalent work experience. (Typically, two years of additional related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a two-year degree.)

Three years of experience networking/telecommunications or related field with advanced skills in multiple telecommunication, networking, or utility disciplines, or has demonstrated advanced skills, job knowledge, and leadership in these areas.

Skills and knowledge:

Must possess basic AC/DC knowledge and understand the safety aspects of working in high voltage environments.

Know and apply network fundamentals for TCP/IP connectivity and routing basics. Cisco CCNA or Nokia RSE certifications preferred but not required.

Ability to test voice and data circuits using meters, oscilloscopes and other communication test equipment.

Intermediate to advanced knowledge of information technology terms, equipment, systems, functions and major vendors.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Able to effectively lead installation and troubleshooting efforts with vendors, service providers, and internal employees.

Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently with limited daily supervision.

Must have a valid driver's license.
