Job description
This employee is responsible for planning, designing, developing, and configuring database systems to meet business needsand requests. The role is a mix of development and production DBA responsibilities.
- Responsible foradministration, capacity planning, engineering/design, performance monitoring, and optimization of the DB2for I database platform
- should be able to adapt to rapidly changing environments and technology
JOB FUNCTIONS
- Supports the design and implementation of new database environments and redesign of existing systems tofulfill business needs
- Monitors and evaluates performance of IBMi databases
- Troubleshoots database performance issues
- Manages database objects
- Libraries, views, tables, stored procedures, triggers
- Supports developers and testing team by maintaining test environments and configuring databases todevelopment specifications
- Works with application development teams to develop data models that support business processes
- Ensures DB changes adhere to best practices
- Reviews all proposed DB changes proposed by IBMi development team
- Creates technical support documentation for databases
- Acts as a SME on IBMI database structure and environment
Requirements
- Bachelor'sDegreeRequired
Work Experience

10+ years of IBMi/iSeries/AS400 experience Required

7+ years of experience supporting DB2 for databases in an enterpriseenvironment Required

Experience working with enterprise applications Required

Relevant certifications or training Preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrable experience with key relational database concepts such as database normalization,referential integrity, index strategy, and transaction isolation

Expert knowledge of the DB2 for I SQL language

Advanced knowledge of trigger concepts, methodologies, and implementation

In depth experience diagnosing and remediating Db2 for i Database performance issues using toolssuch as Plan Cache, Visual Explain, Index Advisor, Detailed Database Monitor, or similar tools

Expert knowledge of modern RPG programming language (ILE/Free)

Strong analytic and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

Effective verbal and written communication

Preference given to someone hands-on experience using system performance tools such as Job Watcher, Collection Services, PEX Analyzer, or similar tools

Experience using Turnover, Aldon, or similar change management tools
