Job description

The SMT Engineer will support and optimize Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) manufacturing operations. This position will be responsible for process development, equipment optimization, quality improvement, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives across SMT production lines. May also work with Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) products and automotive manufacturing standards., * Develop, implement, and maintain SMT and PCBA manufacturing processes to achieve production, quality, and cost targets.

  • Support SMT production lines including stencil printing, SPI, pick-and-place, reflow soldering, AOI, and selective/wave solder processes.
  • Optimize SMT programming, feeder setup, machine utilization, and line balancing for maximum efficiency and throughput.
  • Analyze and resolve process issues related to solder defects, component placement, reflow profiles, PCB handling, and assembly quality.
  • Create and maintain work instructions, process documentation, SOPs, PFMEA, control plans, and engineering change documentation.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for manufacturing and quality issues using structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Production, Maintenance, and Supply Chain teams to improve manufacturing performance and product reliability.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI), prototype builds, process validation, and production launches.
  • Develop and validate reflow profiles for leaded and lead-free soldering processes.
  • Monitor and improve key manufacturing metrics including FPY, scrap, downtime, OEE, and defect reduction.
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance activities for SMT equipment.
  • Evaluate and recommend tooling, fixtures, process improvements, and automation opportunities.
  • Assist in customer audits, internal audits, and compliance activities as required.
  • Ensure compliance with ESD, IPC, ISO, IATF, and safety standards.
  • Train production and technician staff on SMT process improvements and best practices.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Quality audits?, Experience: 3-7+ years of SMT/PCBA engineering experience in electronics manufacturing.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of SMT manufacturing processes and PCB assembly techniques.
  • Experience with SMT equipment such as Panasonic NPM (preferred), Yamaha, Fuji, ASM, Juki, Universal, or similar platforms.
  • Experience developing and optimizing reflow profiles and soldering processes.
  • Knowledge of IPC standards including IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, and ESD controls.
  • Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Experience with MES, ERP, and manufacturing documentation systems.
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, and automotive quality requirements preferred.
  • Experience with AOI, SPI, X-ray inspection, and traceability systems preferred.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering data analysis tools.

Other: Bilingual English/Mandarin preferred.
