Job description

Position Overview: The Director of Information Technology provides strategic leadership, oversight, and management of the District's technology systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity, instructional technology integration, and data privacy compliance in support of the District's educational mission. The Director ensures equitable, reliable, secure, and innovative technology services that support teaching, learning, operations, communication, and administrative efficiency across a PreK-12 environment. Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Strategic Planning:
  • Supervises and evaluates the technology department staff.
  • Develops, implements, and annually evaluates the District Technology Plan aligned to instructional, operational, and strategic goals. Ensures seamless vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment with New York State learning standards, district priorities, and insights derived from rigorous data analysis.
  • Provides leadership in the effective use of instructional and operational technology across all schools and departments. Promotes and sustains the use of evidence-based instructional practices that enhance student engagement, equity, and achievement.
  • Leads districtwide technology innovation efforts that improve student learning, operational effectiveness, communication, and organizational efficiency.
  • Collaborates with instructional leaders to support digital learning initiatives and effective technology integration in PreK-12 classrooms.
  1. Technology Operations and Infrastructure:
  • Directs and supervises the operation, maintenance, replacement, and security of District technology systems, including: Network infrastructure, internet connectivity and wireless systems, servers and cloud environments, end-user devices, classroom instructional technologies, audio/visual systems, and telecommunications and communication systems.
  • Oversees District cybersecurity efforts, including network security, threat prevention, incident response, data protection, vulnerability management, and cybersecurity awareness training to ensure the security and integrity of District technology systems and information.
  • Ensures continuity of technology operations through disaster recovery, backup systems, and business continuity planning. Establishes and sustains a systematic approach to monitoring student performance data, using findings to drive instructional decision-making and program enhancement.
  • Establishes preventative maintenance and lifecycle replacement plans for technology equipment and systems.
  • Oversees technology procurement, inventory management, licensing, warranties, and vendor relationships.
  1. Data Privacy and Compliance (Education Law §2-d)
  • Serves as the District leader for student and employee data privacy compliance and implementation of New York State Education Law §2-d and related regulations.
  • Ensures District compliance with applicable privacy and security laws, including: New York State Education Law §2-d, FERPA, COPPA, and CIPA.
  • Oversees the implementation and monitoring of District policies and procedures for the protection of personally identifiable information (PII).
  • Coordinates and maintains Data Privacy Agreements (DPAs), Vendor security reviews, Parent's bill of rights for data privacy and security, third-party contractor compliance documentation.
  • Maintains processes for documenting and responding to data privacy complaints and incidents.
  1. Instructional Technology Support:
  • Collaborates with instructional leaders to support effective integration of technology into curriculum, instruction, assessment, and personalized learning.
  • Provides leadership in the implementation and support of learning management systems, student information systems, instructional software, digital assessment platforms, and classroom technologies.
  1. Budgeting and Fiscal Management
  • Develops and manages the annual technology budget.
  • Recommends technology purchases and long-term investments aligned with District priorities.
  • Identifies and pursues grants, E-Rate opportunities, and cost efficiencies to maximize resources.
  • Ensures responsible stewardship of District technology resources.
  1. Other:
  • Participates in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with trends, methodologies, and advancements. This includes attending workshops, seminars and professional meetings such as Leadership Council, Instructional Council and the summer Administrative Institute.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Staff supervision?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, + Holds valid New York State certification as a School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA) OR meets the below civil service requirements: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER: (A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master's degree in Data Processing, Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information System, or other computer related field, plus five (5) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent professional* experience in information technology operations management, systems analysis, programming, or computer project management, one (1) year of which must have involved computer programming experience, AND one (1) year of which must have involved supervision** of computer technological staff; (B) OR, Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in one of the fields mentioned in (A) above, plus six (6) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent professional* experience as defined in (A) above, one (1) year of which must have involved computer programming experience, AND one (1) year of which must have involved supervision** of computer technological staff; (C) OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), and (B) above.
