Job description
The Atmospheric Composition Group (AC) of the Barcelona Computing Center is running workflows at different timescales with the EC-Earth climate model, producing large amounts of data from a wide range of experiment configurations, including different definitions of outputs and variables. The successful candidate will work within the Data and Diagnostics Team and Model and Workflow Team to support the development and implementation of new variables in the model itself and in the postprocessing pipeline to convert the raw data to community standards formats (CMOR netCDF). The work also implies the integration of these developments in the workflow. Key Duties
- Implement changes in the Fortran code of the models to produce new variables in the model output.
- Adapt the CMORization and standaridization Python code to process new GRIB variables in NetCDF.
- Contribute to setup and verify the generation of cmor outputs for AC experiments
- Integrate the new codes in the relevant workflow
- Provide support and guidance to potential users and other developers on the newly developed features, as well as promote best practices, * A cover/motivation letter with a statement of interest in English, clearly specifying for which specific area and topics the applicant wishes to be considered. Development of the recruitment process
The selection will be carried out through a competitive examination system ("Concurso-Oposición"). The recruitment process consists of two phases:
- Curriculum Analysis: Evaluation of previous experience and/or scientific history, degree, training, and other professional information relevant to the position. - 40 points
- Interview phase: The highest-rated candidates at the curriculum level will be invited to the interview phase, conducted by the corresponding department and Human Resources. In this phase, technical competencies, knowledge, skills, and professional experience related to the position, as well as the required personal competencies, will be evaluated. - 60 points. A minimum of 30 points out of 60 must be obtained to be eligible for the position.
The recruitment panel will be composed of at least three people, ensuring at least 25% representation of women.
In accordance with OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for each vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will begin the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. At a minimum, a personality questionnaire as well as a technical exercise will be conducted during the process.
The panel will make a final decision, and all individuals who participated in the interview phase will receive feedback with details on the acceptance or rejection of their profile.

Requirements
- Education
- Having a Masters in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Physics or related discipline
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Good development skills and experience with UNIX/LINUX environments.
- Experience in Python programming and scripting languages.
- Knowledge of climate formats and tools (netcdf, grib, xarray, dask...)
- Knowledge of Fortran will be valued
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Knowledge in git, gitlab, github or any version control system
- Familiarity with High Performance Computing environments and parallel
- Competences
- This is a specialized position so the successful candidate is expected to have a demonstrated learning capacity and the motivation to maintain a learning progression during the contract.
- Capacity to interact and build strong relations with both climate and computer scientists
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
