Job description

The System Engineering department is responsible for the design of new products and services, and for managing software and hardware development. Within this department, the specialists from the Cyber Engineering team are responsible for all aspects in the field of cyber security.

About your future job

Thales designs and develops complete mission systems, combat management systems and radar systems. As a cybersecurity engineer, you focus on the functional behaviour of these complex systems and the hard- and software functions that have been implemented in them.

Our customers often have explicit requirements regarding cybersecurity, like the expected cybersecurity level or international standards to adhere to. By performing various kinds of risk analyses, the cybersecurity specialist will identify cybersecurity relevant system parts, derive and allocate cybersecurity requirements, build the cybersecurity case and support the implementation teams in understanding the consequences of their decisions, and in making the right design choices.

Your main tasks are:

  • support System Engineering, Software Engineering and Hardware Engineering teams with regards to specific cybersecurity topics, throughout the whole V-model;
  • Analyse and triage vulnerabilities, and document the appropriate next steps within a naval context
  • Contribute to a cybersecurity management plan for the scope of activities
  • Analyse, assess and allocate customer and derived system cybersecurity requirements
  • Perform risk analyses and manage cybersecurity issues
  • Report and advise on integral cybersecurity issues and cybersecurity strategies in the project
  • Collect cybersecurity evidence and construct the case for cybersecurity
  • participates in the response to local major cybersecurity crisis;
  • propagates the Thales Naval-NL cybersecurity way of working and thinking within Engineering;
  • participates in research projects (RPP), to increase our knowledge and develop our cybersecurity solutions of the future;
  • identifies future threats that need to be addressed, for example in future RPPs;
  • identifies the current state of cybersecurity industry best practices.

Requirements

  • recently completed a technical Bachelor's or Master's degree;
  • has proven affinity with cyber security
  • is familiar with the system engineering and requirements management;
  • has good analytical and conceptual skills;
  • is communicative, takes initiative when necessary, and can easily talk to different types of people;
  • is a team player, and enjoys working in multidisciplinary teams;
  • has an excellent level of business English.

Additionally, the following qualifications will help you along in the selection:

  • has some work experience in the cyber domain and/or technical product development
  • has affection with the defense industry or Naval domain
