Job description
As the IT Business Systems Manager, you will be responsible for the leadership, strategy and operational delivery of business-critical IT systems across the organisation.
Overseeing three core technical functions - Business Applications, IT Infrastructure and DevOps, you will ensure that systems are secure, resilient and aligned with business objectives within a regulated defence manufacturing environment. You'll apply your expertise to drive digital transformation, process improvement, and system integration. You'll also collaborate with technical teams, Cybersecurity, Service Delivery, and wider stakeholders to deliver secure and effective solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop core IT teams (Business Applications, Infrastructure, Dev Ops).
- Define team objectives, drive performance and support capability and succession planning.
- Oversee applications to ensure compliance, integration, effective upgrades, vendor management, and strategic alignment.
- Manage application roadmap, upgrades, vendors and data consistency.
- Partner with Service Delivery to ensure smooth operations and user satisfaction.
- Own the lifecycle, performance, and optimisation of enterprise applications (e.g. PLM, MES, CRM, HR, Finance, M365, Power BI).
- Enable DevOps, CI/CD, automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
- Align IT systems with cybersecurity standards and risk management requirements.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to deliver IT solutions and drive transformation.
- Ensure systems and processes comply with GDPR, UK defence sector regulations, export control and security requirements.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements
Do you have a valid Driving License license?, Do you have experience in Scripting?, Degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)., * Understanding of IT infrastructure - cloud and on-premises, networking concepts, air-gapped environments.
- Experience in a DevOps environment using CI/CD pipelines and tools from industry experience (Artifactory, Atlassian stack, Github, JROG).
- Knowledge of change and incident management (ITIL).
- Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary IT teams.
- Experience of leading quarterly performance and end of year reviews with objective setting.
- Familiarity with relevant frameworks and standards (e.g. ISO 27001, ITIL, NIST, Secure-by-design).
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and deliver the strategy in regulated or complex environments.
- Strong communications skills with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience working in manufacturing or engineering environments.
- Understanding of compliance requirements in defence or highly regulated industries.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of scripting/coding language.
- Prior use of AI in secure/air-gapped environments.
- Experience with system integration, APIs, and data architecture.
- Previous experience in a defence industry., * Must be a British Citizen or have an existing right to work in the UK.
- Ability to commit to occasional national and international travel.
- A full valid UK driving licence.
- Ability to hold Security Clearance - 5 years residence in the UK.
- Potential to obtain DV clearance.
