Job description
As a Director in Applied AI within our AI & Data team, you will set the growth strategy and lead a portfolio of Applied AI programmes across our major Telecoms, Media & Technology (TMT) clients. You will originate and shape high-value opportunities, build and take to market differentiated offerings, and sponsor multi-disciplinary teams to deliver secure, responsible and scalable AI outcomes. You will operate as a trusted advisor to C-suite leaders, accountable for commercial performance, delivery excellence and the development of our people and capability.
- Telecoms
- Media & Entertainment
- Technology
As a Director in Applied AI (TMT), you will be responsible for:
- Owning the TMT Applied AI growth strategy across priority accounts, setting origination targets, and leading pursuit teams from executive relationship development through to proposal, negotiation and close.
- Building and scaling market-facing offerings (including GenAI and advanced analytics), defining value propositions, pricing approaches and delivery models, and partnering with alliance and engineering leaders to industrialise solutions.
- Operating as a senior trusted advisor to C-suite stakeholders, shaping AI-enabled business and operating-model change and translating model capabilities into measurable financial, customer and operational outcomes.
- Providing executive sponsorship for complex, multi-workstream AI programmes, ensuring strong governance, risk management, delivery assurance and benefits realisation across the portfolio.
- Setting the standards for secure and responsible deployment of large language models and associated tooling, ensuring appropriate controls, testing, monitoring, model-risk management and data protections are embedded in our delivery approach.
- Championing Responsible AI and regulatory readiness for clients, including governance for privacy, bias, explainability, human oversight and third-party model usage, and advising on control frameworks and assurance needs.
- Leading, developing and retaining senior consulting talent, building a high-performing team and capability pipeline, and holding accountability for commercial management, utilisation, quality and margin performance.
Requirements
- Proven track record of leading and closing large, complex consulting sales and owning senior client relationships across major Technology, Media or Telecommunications accounts (including multi-year transformation programmes).
- Deep commercial and technical understanding of generative AI and the modern AI stack, including large language models, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector databases, evaluation/monitoring and MLOps principles, with the ability to shape investment cases and operating models at scale.
- Extensive experience providing executive oversight for production AI delivery (you steer architecture and engineering leadership rather than writing code), with accountability for programme outcomes, delivery assurance, risk management and benefits realisation.
- Strong sector experience applying AI to high-impact TMT use cases, for example: telco operations and customer service, network planning and assurance, media supply chains and content operations, or software engineering productivity and developer tooling.
- Strong understanding of major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and their generative AI services, plus the security, data, compliance and operating-model considerations required for enterprise deployment across complex organisations.
- Exceptional executive communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders on business impact, risk, controls, cost, time-to-value and organisational adoption, and to represent Deloitte in client leadership forums.
The following will be an added advantage:
- Relevant certifications in cloud and AI (e.g., AWS, Azure or GCP; machine learning or data engineering certifications).
- Experience establishing responsible AI practices (governance, risk and controls) for generative AI and advanced analytics.
- Consulting experience leading multi-workstream programmes, including commercial management, estimation and delivery margin control.
- Experience operating in Agile environments and collaborating with product and engineering teams to deliver iterative value.
- Additionally, we expect that you possess the following core consulting skills:
- A strong focus on team working within diverse and remotely located teams
- A "can do" attitude - Hands-on & flexible approach to emerging requirements and a real willingness to learn and participate
