Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled Linux Systems Engineer / DevOps Engineer to support a federal customer operating mission-critical infrastructure and applications. This individual will be responsible for Linux administration, infrastructure automation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational support across enterprise environments.

The ideal candidate possesses deep Linux expertise, hands-on experience with Ansible automation, strong Splunk administration and monitoring capabilities, and a proven ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Candidates with experience supporting federal agencies and regulated government environments are highly desired.

This position is fully remote; however, the selected candidate must demonstrate exceptional communication, collaboration, and customer-facing skills while supporting distributed teams and government stakeholders.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Administer, maintain, and optimize enterprise Linux environments

  • Develop and maintain infrastructure automation using Ansible

  • Support and enhance Splunk dashboards, searches, alerts, and log ingestion pipelines

  • Monitor system performance, availability, and security compliance

  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and application issues across multiple environments

  • Perform system upgrades, patching, hardening, and configuration management

  • Collaborate with application, cloud, cybersecurity, and engineering teams

  • Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and operational runbooks

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and infrastructure modernization efforts

  • Provide technical recommendations and communicate system status to customers and leadership

  • Participate in project planning, technical reviews, and customer meetings

Requirements

5+ years of Linux Systems Administration or DevOps Engineering experience

  • Strong experience supporting:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

  • CentOS

  • Rocky Linux

  • Ubuntu Linux

  • Hands-on experience with Ansible automation and configuration management

  • Experience administering and supporting Splunk Enterprise environments

  • Strong understanding of:

  • Linux operating systems

  • System performance tuning

  • Bash scripting

  • Python scripting

  • Networking fundamentals

  • Security best practices

  • Log aggregation and monitoring solutions

  • Experience supporting enterprise production environments

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to effectively communicate with engineers, project managers, and government stakeholders

  • Experience working independently in a remote environment

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Federal Government agencies

  • Experience supporting agencies such as:

  • HHS

  • CMS, Experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud environments

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices

  • Experience supporting FISMA, NIST, or FedRAMP environments

  • Red Hat, Splunk, AWS, or Linux-related certifications

Customer-facing consulting or engineering experience

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A strong communicator who can explain technical concepts to diverse audiences

  • Comfortable working directly with government customers

  • Highly organized and self-directed in a remote work environment

  • Proactive in identifying and resolving issues before they impact operations

  • Passionate about automation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field preferred
