Job description

The MSU IT Infrastructure Support team consists of experienced networking professionals from various backgrounds tasked with the planning, installation, operation, and maintenance of the critical infrastructure essential to the university's daily functions. Our mission is centered on the stewardship and administration of the university's infrastructure, which includes wired and wireless networks, DDI (DNS, DHCP, and IPAM), switching and routing, and telecommunications. The team is instrumental in maintaining the technological foundation that supports the university's operations. This position reports to the Network Operations Manager. Duties include:

  • Monitor network performance and capacity
  • Ensure system availability and reliability
  • Administration of various devices and services
  • Maintenance of system configurations
  • Network troubleshooting
  • Configuration and change management policy adherence
  • Customer and technical staff collaboration for issue resolution
  • 24x7x365 on-call incident response rotation
  • Additional tasks as assigned

Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in one of the following areas software development, computer/systems operations, customer support, systems administration, systems software support, hardware support, communications network support, or database administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of both wired and wireless infrastructure,
  • Knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, 802.11, 802.1x, DHCP,
  • Experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools
  • Network certifications
  • Network work experience at a higher education institution
  • DDI experience
