Linux &Unix Patching Red Hat satellite server
Seeking a skilled Unix / Linux Patching Engineer to support enterprise Linux server patching, vulnerability remediation, compliance, and system administration activities across a large-scale infrastructure environment.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing Linux and AIX patching lifecycles, coordinating maintenance windows, troubleshooting patch failures, and ensuring systems remain compliant with internal security and regulatory standards.
This role will work closely with infrastructure, security, application, change management, and operations teams to plan, test, deploy, and validate patches across Linux/ AIX environments.
Key Responsibilities
Manage end-to-end Linux / Unix patching activities across enterprise server environments.
Perform patch planning, scheduling, testing, deployment, validation, and post-patching support.
Patch and remediate vulnerabilities across Red Hat Enterprise Linux, AIX, and other enterprise Unix platforms.
Provide post patching support for failed systems and triaging issues until resolution under on call roster
Expertise with enterprise tools such as Red Hat Satellite Server, Ansible, Puppet, NIM , VIOS , BigFix or similar automation/configuration management platforms to automate patching and system maintenance.
Coordinate patch deployments in staging and production environments while minimizing business impact and downtime.
Troubleshoot patching issues, failed deployments, dependency conflicts, OS-level errors, and application-related impacts. Support vulnerability remediation efforts based on scan results from tools such as Qualys, CrowdStrike, Defender, or similar security platforms. Maintain patching schedules, remediation plans, compliance reports, and operational documentation.
Work with change management teams to create, submit, track, and close change requests using tools such as ServiceNow.
Support infrastructure monitoring, logging, and reporting using tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace and SolarWinds or similar tools.
Collaborate with application owners, security teams, and infrastructure teams to validate system health after patching.
Participate in incident, problem, request, and change management processes.
Requirements
Strong hands-on experience with Linux patch management in enterprise environments.
Experience with Red Hat Satellite Server for patching, provisioning, system management, and compliance.
Strong experience with IBM AIX Operating systems managing LPAR s via VIO s and NIM servers
Experience automating patching and system administration tasks using Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or shell scripting.
Strong understanding of the patch management lifecycle, including testing, deployment, rollback, validation, and reporting.
Experience with vulnerability remediation and security patching.
Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks such as CISA Kev , PCI DSS, HIPAA, SOX,
Experience working with ticketing and change management tools such as ServiceNow.
Strong troubleshooting skills across Linux operating systems, networking, storage, and application dependencies.
Knowledge of Linux services and protocols such as DNS, SSH, HTTP/HTTPS, NFS, LDAP, DHCP, FTP, BIND, NAS, and SAN.
Ability to work with cross-functional teams in a remote enterprise support model. Strong documentation, communication, and coordination skills.
