Job description

Duties Description Under the direction of the Data Analyst 2 in the Bureau of Data Reporting and Analytics, the Data Analyst 1 will perform data extraction, aggregation, and quality checks from multiple sources and tables in support of trend identification and root cause analysis and summarize results, create written reports,and collaborate with staff in support of innovative and effective dashboards and data visualizations. Duties include but are not limited to:

· Prepare data download, cleaning, and analysis across several large data systems using SAS, Python, and/or SQL. · Update and maintain Tableau Dashboards to support operational and leadership reporting. · Maintain integration processes required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources in both on premise and cloud environments. · Collaborate with staff and external partners to ensure support for all data sets and processes running in production. · Translate program requirements to technical documentation and compile methodology/code to support for major quality, safety, and public health. · Assess data structures of current data systems and provide suggestions for how they can be used to produce desired reports. · Utilize cloud-based data analytics technology solutions to support both regular reports and analyses as well as research on health outcomes of interest. · Prepare data for analysis and reporting using data wrangling techniques (joining, merging, stacking, cleansing, transposing, aggregating, transforming, etc.). · Produce and interpret univariate analyses to identify patterns, outliers, and errors in data. · Assist in the systems management, data management, and testing of systems used for data quality; develop scripts and data pipelines to automate these tasks.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications Data Analyst Trainee 1, NS (equivalent to SG-14): four years of experience* in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.

Data Analyst Trainee 2, NS (equivalent to SG-16): five years of experience* in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.

Data Analyst 1, SG-18: four years of experience* in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools and satisfactory completion of a two-year traineeship; OR six years of experience* in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.

*Substitution: An associate's degree may substitute for two years of general experience; or a bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of general experience. A master's degree in data or computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field, may substitute for one year of general experience; or a Ph.D. in these fields may substitute for two years of general experience.

Additional Comments * Appointments may also be made at the Data Analyst Trainee levels. Candidates hired at the entry-level title (Data Analyst Trainee 1) may be advanced to the full-performance level (Data Analyst 1) following satisfactory completion of two-years of service.
