Job description

Role purpose: Own and evolve core banking payment capabilities by defining product vision, prioritizing delivery, and ensuring secure, compliant, and reliable payment experiences across channels., * Define and communicate the product vision, roadmap, and measurable outcomes for core banking payments.

  • Own and prioritize the product backlog; write clear user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Partner with engineering, architecture, QA, and operations to deliver scalable, resilient payment solutions.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, compliance, risk, and security to meet regulatory and audit requirements.
  • Drive discovery: gather requirements, analyze customer and operational needs, and validate solutions.
  • Manage dependencies across teams and vendors; coordinate releases and change management.
  • Monitor performance and quality (e.g., availability, latency, failure rates); lead continuous improvement., As part of Nationale-Nederlanden Bank's strategy, we are building a scalable, full-fledged payments organization. You and your team will focus on delivering and maintaining core banking solution. This includes day-to-day operations, incident resolution, system maintenance but also the compliance watch, and the implementation of the functional changes end-to-end.

In your role it's important to be aligned with the other product owners with Payments to deliver end-to-end solutions. Next to that, you also work closely with our (internal) suppliers and collaborate with them to deliver high-quality solutions our customers will be happy about. You excel in balancing between the need for speed (by our teams) versus delivering the right level of quality and robustness.

What does your team do? The Core banking payments team currently has multiple responsibilities it takes care of. The most important of those:

  • End-to-end responsibility for the core banking product. This concerns development of new functionality, testing, solving incidents and problems, and analyze the impact of new regulations on your product
  • Gatekeeper of the guardrails in which a payments business operates. security and reliability are critical areas you are proficient at
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with external vendors in scope and follow-up on their performance and compliance with the contractual terms and internal policies, * Work with stakeholders to define long-term vision for the Core Banking Payments Platform and set clear, measurable goals for development of its solutions
  • Convey the product vision and product strategy to the members of the teams, inspiring them to create extraordinary results
  • Constantly analyze emerging trends in the market and within NN Bank in partnership with the Domain Lead Payments and our supplier to see where your team can add the most value
  • Represent NN Bank in supplier meetings when this affects your portfolio
  • Act as a bridge between your teams and stakeholders, suppliers, gathering feedback and ensuring needs are understood
  • Develop and maintain a prioritized product backlog, making decisions based on business value and technical feasibility and plan implementation accordingly
  • Ensures that the user stories are well formed and aligned with the product strategy
  • Define acceptance criteria for user stories to validate that they meet the business requirements
  • Identify and mitigate risk related to the solutions provided by the teams including technical challenges, data quality issues and regulatory compliance
  • Manages expectations of stakeholders continuously through negotiation and influencing
  • Play a key role in the Product Increment (SYNC) planning, ensuring realistic goals for each quarter, Our Payments organization consists of about 70 experts. You work closely with various colleagues from other departments. Engineers, product specialists, risk managers, fraud specialists, demand & process management experts, market researchers, UX designers, and marketers join forces every day to develop our new proposition and achieve our objectives. Requirements

  • Product ownership experience in core banking and payments (e.g., SEPA, SWIFT, ACH, instant payments, cards, payment gateways).
  • Strong understanding of payment processing flows, reconciliation, settlement, and exception handling.
  • Knowledge of regulatory, risk, and security controls (e.g., AML/KYC concepts, PSD2, PCI where applicable).
  • Experience with Agile delivery, stakeholder management, and data-driven prioritization.
  • Ability to translate complex technical constraints into clear product decisions and requirements.

Hard skills - You are good at what you do

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
  • A completed Master's degree, for example in a technical or business-related field
  • Deep experience in the payments domain
  • Proven experience in previous roles as a Product Owner
  • Experience in shaping vision and strategy for a digital product
  • Experience in owning a core banking product with multiple (internal) stakeholders
  • A solid understanding of the lifecycle, Operations, and Maintenance of a core banking product
