Job description
Technical Consultant - Cloud Operations Permanent | Surrey, UK (Hybrid) | Up to £80,000 | Financial Services
The opportunity
We're recruiting on behalf of a leading global investment manager seeking an experienced Cloud Operations Technical Consultant to join their internal developer platform team. This is a senior engineering role within a globally distributed, collaborative team building and operating an AWS-based platform used by application teams across the organisation.
You'll be hands-on engineering AWS core services, acting as a trusted advisor to delivery teams, and contributing to a culture of extreme programming, open collaboration and continuous improvement. The team operates using Kanban and follows XP practices closely - pairing, shared ownership and working in the open are the norm, with all code peer reviewed and no single point of ownership on any part of the platform.
The role
- Deliver secure, automated, self-service and cost-efficient AWS core services aligned to the platform product roadmap
- Maintain the baseline security and networking guardrails that underpin AWS landing zones used by workload teams across the business
- Act as a trusted advisor to application and delivery teams, enabling rapid and effective adoption of AWS services
- Identify improvement opportunities, propose solutions and drive cloud adoption across the wider infrastructure and delivery organisation
- Coach and pair with team members regularly, contributing to a transparent, knowledge-sharing culture across a globally distributed engineering function
Skills and experience
- Deep hands-on AWS experience across core services, IAM, networking, landing zones and hybrid cloud models
- Excellent Python and Boto3 skills with a clean, pragmatic approach to coding and a strong grounding in test-driven development
- Very good knowledge of Terraform and experience managing continuous delivery pipelines in multi-tenant enterprise environments
- Strong understanding of all network layers and security controls in AWS and hybrid environments
- Solid Linux and Shell Scripting capability in a production context
- Comfortable working in an agile Kanban-based product team, delivering iterative MVP stories and applying traditional RCA methods across the full stack
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
What's on offer
A salary of up to £80,000 alongside a comprehensive benefits package. The organisation is a flexible employer with a genuine commitment to employee wellbeing, career development and inclusive working, offering hybrid flexibility within a collaborative global team.
