Contract Backend Software Engineer - Java/Kotlin Location: Manchester Hybrid (2 days onsite) Duration: Initial 6-Month Contract Start: ASAP/July 2026
Urgent 6 Month Contract
This is a Manchester hybrid based role with an excellent immediate start within a Global Technology Client that is working to Design and build Back End services using Java or Kotlin
We're looking for experienced Backend Software Engineers with strong Java or Kotlin expertise to help build scalable cloud-native services and third-party integrations within a modern engineering environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Designing and building Back End services using Java or Kotlin
- Developing REST APIs and third-party integrations
- Building scalable cloud-native applications in AWS
- Writing clean, maintainable, and testable code
- Implementing automated testing and TDD practices
- Working with distributed systems and event-driven architecture
- Improving observability, monitoring, and reliability
- Supporting CI/CD and modern software delivery practices
- Collaborating with engineering and product teams
- Participating in code reviews and troubleshooting sessions
Key Requirements
Essential
- Strong Back End engineering experience with Java or Kotlin
- Strong automation testing experience
- Experience with automated testing/TDD
- AWS cloud experience
- REST API development experience
- Experience integrating with third-party systems
- Strong understanding of cloud-native development
- Experience with observability and production support
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Desirable
- Kubernetes/Docker
- CI/CD pipelines
- Kafka or event-driven systems
- Experience in travel, marketplace, SaaS, or ticketing platforms
- Experience working with AI-enabled products
- Experience in fast-paced product engineering environments
