Job description
As a Lead Data Scientist at National Grid, you will deliver projects across our enterprise. You will work in a dynamic organization to turn data into actionable intelligence. The work you execute will drive real-world impacts for millions of customers, including their safety, the reliability and affordability of their heat and power, and the environmental impacts of the services that National Grid provides them.
You will work hands-on and collaborate with a team of data scientists, data engineers, and ML engineers to solve problems across all parts of the business (gas, electric, and customer; US and UK). An ability to work cross-functionally and on agile teams is critical and you should have a strong foundation of:
- Stakeholder engagement
- Statistical & probabilistic analyses
- Programming/software development
- Visualization and effective presentations
Key Accountabilities
- Lead major projects from conception to completion, working with multiple teams of stakeholders directly to understand and address their analytic needs
- Collaborate with Data Engineering to identify, extract, and integrate data for disparate sources; prepare and clean data for use in advanced analyses
- Employ sophisticated analytics, machine learning, and statistical methods for predictive and prescriptive modeling, forecasting, and simulations
- Develop structured, documented, version-controlled code and work with ML Engineering to productionalize models
- Mentor junior Data Scientists
- Contribute toward the strategic vision for shaping the Data Science team of tomorrow
Requirements
- A degree in a relevant field and applied data science experience:
- Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of experience
- Master's degree and 5+ years of experience
- PhD and 3+ years of experience
- Experience leading large-scale data science projects
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with business stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to translate technical knowledge into business terms
- Fluency in:
- Data Science tools: statistics, Machine Learning, Generative AI
- Python
- SQL
- Experience with cloud computing in Linux and Windows environments
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Strong background in full lifecycle of Data Science products & projects
- Regulated utility experience, especially electricity and gas utilities
- Experience mentoring junior data science professionals
- Experience operationalizing Data Science solutions into production
- Experience building Data Science solutions using large volume, high-velocity data
- Experience building GenAI and LLM tools in a business context
- Experience working with Azure cloud computing
Benefits & conditions
Waltham: $153k - $180k a year
Brooklyn: $164k - $192k a year
