Job description

  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and manage a small, agile team of software engineers. Conduct code reviews, provide technical guidance, and foster a culture of excellence in data quality and engineering best practices.
  • DBT Testing & Quality Gates: Architect and implement a comprehensive testing suite within DBT. Design and enforce data quality gates in the CI/CD and ETL pipeline to ensure that only high-integrity data reaches production environments.
  • Deep Data Analysis & Profiling: Perform exhaustive data profiling and deep-dive analyses using SQL and Python to evaluate completeness, identify hidden patterns, and resolve structural inconsistencies.
  • Product Strategy & Planning: Collaborate directly with Product Managers and other Team Leads to develop and prioritize the product backlog. You will be responsible for identifying work estimates and refining complex requirements into actionable technical tasks.
  • Modern Data Stack & Observability: Architect and implement robust observability frameworks using BigQuery, DBT, Elementary, and Grafana to create real-time monitors, alerts, and dashboards that track the health and lineage of our data ecosystem.
  • AI-Driven Development: Champion the use of AI productivity tools-such as Cursor, Claude, and GitHub Copilot-to streamline development, automate testing, and refactor legacy data pipelines efficiently.
  • Statistical Insights & KPIs: Define and report on key Data Quality KPIs (e.g., freshness, volume, and schema changes) using correlation and trend analysis to provide platform-wide transparency.
  • Advanced Data Modeling: Manage an enterprise data model integrating multiple domains (Clinical, NGS, Radiology) across relational and NoSQL technologies.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Trend analysis?, * Technical Proficiency: You are an expert in the modern data engineering stack, specifically DBT, SQL, and Python.

  • Leadership Experience: You have a proven track record of leading or mentoring a small team of engineers in a fast-paced environment.
  • Observability & AI Savvy: You have hands-on experience with observability tools (e.g., Elementary, Grafana) and are proficient in leveraging AI coding assistants (Cursor, Claude, Copilot) to enhance team velocity.
  • Domain Expertise: You have a strong background in healthcare and next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.
  • Analytical Powerhouse: You use data profiling and correlation analysis to solve complex data integrity problems.
  • Communication: Ability to translate technical data quality gaps into actionable insights for both internal developers and external stakeholders.

About the company

Tempus was founded in August of 2015 by Eric Lefkofsky, after his wife was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Shortly after he founded the company in an effort to bring the power of technology and artificial intelligence to cancer care, he convinced Ryan Fukushima to join as the company's first employee. Ryan and Eric began assembling a world class team, focused on building the first version of a platform capable of ingesting real time healthcare data in an effort to personalize diagnostics. We built the platform for oncology and have expanded it to neuropsychiatry, cardiology, infectious disease (through COVID), and radiology. Despite our rapid growth, our mission remains the same-to help make sure patients are on the right drug at the right time, so they can live longer and healthier lives.
