Job description
This position will be under the software operations transfer team within the Software COE. A major part of the position would involve developing and validating software tools/applications and procedures for releasing production software to manufacturers and field service teams.
This position will develop, test, and validate the software tools and applications on robotic hardware systems directly most of the time. These tools and applications directly support the test fixtures on the production lines and the service activities in the hospitals.
This engineer will work closely with other software teams, project management, operation teams, field service teams, and quality teams to implement the design transfer for software releases.
This engineer will also provide training to field service engineers and manufacturing engineers on system operation, troubleshooting, and debugging. The engineer will maintain an up-to-date understanding of the system design and behavior, and regularly upgrade their technical skills.
This engineer will also develop software tools for monitoring system performance, improving utility of logged data, and enhancing debugging.
As a Software Engineer II, your responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Develop software applications and tools for field service/manufacturing
- Maintain current tools used by field service/manufacturing
- Contribute to drafting service/manufacturing instructions
- Lead the verification testing for the service software release and manufacturing release
- Contribute to software tools development for R&D and manufacturing.
- Provide software support and assistance during system upgrades in the field
- Provide software support and assistance to the manufacturing product lines
- Create training materials for field service engineers and manufacturing test engineers
- Learn and master Software Deployment procedures for all aspects of the robotic platform
- Learn the manufacturing and service procedures of the whole robotics system
- Contribute to the assessment of proposed software releases and service process changes
- Guide efforts to improve software deployment and system debugging process under the service settings

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree related to electrical/biomedical/computer/mechanical/robotics engineering or computer science
- 2+ years of experience or advanced degrees with 0+ years of experience
- Comfort prioritizing tasks based on general guidance with limited direct oversight
- Proficient with at least one programming language
- Fluency in English
Nice to Have
- Experience with LabVIEW, test stand and test automation
- Experience with software verification and validation
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with Linux, shell scripting, Python scripting, software installation, etc
- Experience with QNX and knowledge of C and C++.
- Working knowledge of computer networking
- Working knowledge of operating systems
- Working experience with manufacturing
- Prior experience with system-level debugging
- Experience with electro-mechanical devices controlled by software.
- Working experience in full-lifecycle engineering programs and processes
- Knowledge of relevant technologies including:
- Mechatronics / Robotics
- Mechanical and electrical interfaces
- Communication protocols
- Sensors, actuators, controllers
- Kinematics of mechanisms
- Vision and display systems

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$100,000.00 - $150,000.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
