Job description

The Telecommunications Technician will be responsible for establishing data networks by installing network equipment such as routers and switches, running copper and fiber cabling, and performing basic configurations. The technician will also configure replacement network hardware and ship to worldwide locations (routers, switches, APs, etc). This position is 'on-site' in Louisville, KY and requires a background check for Airport property access.

Role Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and support telecommunications and network equipment, including routers, switches, and wireless access points.
  • Run, terminate, test, and label copper and fiber optic cabling in accordance with network and facility standards.
  • Perform basic configuration and setup of network hardware, including replacement routers, switches, and access points.
  • Prepare, configure, package, and ship network equipment to domestic and international locations.
  • Support wired and wireless network implementations across medium- and large-scale projects.
  • Install power, cabling, and telecommunications equipment in IDF, MDF, and other network infrastructure environments.
  • Assist with troubleshooting network connectivity and hardware issues, including Cisco and/or HP Aruba switching environments.
  • Interpret network drawings, layouts, and related documentation to support installations and upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate records of installations, equipment, and cabling activities.
  • Collaborate with technical teams, helpdesk staff, and project stakeholders to support timely completion of network projects.
  • Follow site access, safety, and security requirements, including standards required for Airport property access.
  • Perform physical installation work, including climbing ladders, mounting and racking equipment, and running cables under floors and overhead.

Requirements

  • Must have experience with LAN technologies including Ethernet and fiber optic cabling, IDF/MDF physical characteristics, and Network drawings and concepts
  • Must have experience with wired and wireless communication systems, networks and protocols including experience in medium and large implementation projects
  • Experience installing power, cables, and telecom equipment
  • Helpdesk and related experience with Cisco and/or HP Aruba switch configuration and troubleshooting
  • Must be able to meet qualifications for full access to Airport property/facilities
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements of the job, such as working on ladders, racking heavy equipment (lifting up to 50+ lbs), and running cables under floors and overhead

Highly Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Good understanding of the importance of change management and its associated control process working with SMC
  • Wireshark and packet capture analysis experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of Obtain software
  • Basic competence with Microsoft business applications (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, Power Point)
  • Must be punctual, organized and self-motivated, with the ability to quickly and easily adapt to change
  • Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written expected
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, related fields and/or equivalent experience
  • Ideal Certifications: CompTIA Network+, CCNA or equivalent experience preferred
