Data Engineer / Business Analyst (MS Fabric) Summary Location: Barcelona (Hybrid) Day Rate: Negotiable Duration: 3 Months (with a potential view to extend) Availability: ASAP About the Client My client is the air transport industrys IT provider, delivering solutions for airlines, airports, aircraft, and governments. Their technology powers more seamless, safe, and sustainable air travel. They are looking to hire an experienced Data Engineer/Business Analyst to join on an initial 3 month contract. About the Role Lead enterprise data ingestion and platform design on Microsoft Fabric. Bridge business requirements into scalable, cloud-native data engineering solutions, ensuring trusted and governed data is available within OneLake/Lakehouse for downstream analytics, AI, and wider enterprise use. Key Responsibilities Data Architecture & Platform Design * Design scalable, cloud-native architectures leveraging Microsoft Fabric and Lakehouse principles * Define ingestion-first architectures (Source * OneLake / Lakehouse pipelines) * Implement reusable, standardised ingestion frameworks across enterprise systems * Structure data environments to support high-volume processing and enterprise analytics Data Engineering & Automation * Apply Big Data engineering patterns to optimise ingestion, transformation, and storage layers * Design and implement automated data pipelines (batch, streaming, API, filebased ingestion) * Lead delivery of data engineering solutions including: * Data ingestion and transformation * Data standardisation and modelling * Pipeline optimisation and performance tuning * Ensure ML/AI-ready data structures aligned to advanced analytics requirements Business Analysis & Requirements Translation * Translate business requirements into technical solutions, including: * Source-to-target mappings * Transformation logic * Data definitions and quality rules * Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure requirements are complete, actionable, and aligned to platform standards Data Governance & Quality * Drive data governance practices including: * Data ownership and stewardship * Data lineage and traceability * Security, compliance, and regulatory adherence * Implement and enforce data quality validation frameworks * Ensure consistency and standardisation across data pipelines and domains Stakeholder & Delivery Leadership * Manage cross-functional stakeholders across PODs, systems, and programmes * Align dependencies across business and technology teams Continuous Improvement & Innovation * Stay current with Microsoft Fabric capabilities and evolving cloud data engineering practices * Adopt new automation, analytics, and AI technologies * Promote ML-oriented design principles to support advanced analytics use cases * Drive continuous improvement in platform efficiency, scalability, and usability What we are looking for Key Capabilities & Attributes * Strong expertise in Microsoft Fabric and Lakehouse architecture * Proven experience in designing enterprise-scale data ingestion and pipeline frameworks * Deep knowledge of Big Data engineering patterns and automation techniques * Strong Business Analysis capability (requirements * technical translation) * Customer-centric mindset, focused on delivering business outcomes * Thought leadership and ability to influence cross-functional teams * High level of technical curiosity and continuous learning mindset Qualifications & Experience * Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or related discipline * 8+ years' experience in data architecture within enterprise environments * Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric or modern cloud data platforms
