This is a practical leadership role - not a purely managerial position. You'll be responsible for improving delivery, introducing structure, mentoring developers, and remaining technically involved where required.

You'll work closely with senior leadership, taking ownership of day-to-day coordination, planning, and team performance. Key Responsibilities for the Software Engineering Manager

  • Lead and coordinate a small team of software developers
  • Manage priorities, workload planning, and delivery schedules
  • Improve processes, communication, and team accountability
  • Run stand-ups, sprint planning, and delivery reviews where appropriate
  • Mentor and support developers
  • Stay hands-on with development when needed
  • Oversee DevOps, deployments, and release processes
  • Align development output with business priorities
  • Contribute to building a scalable and positive engineering culture

Requirements

  • Experience leading or mentoring software developers
  • Strong software development background
  • Proven ability to manage workflows and priorities
  • Experience with Agile / Scrum methodologies
  • DevOps / CI/CD and deployment experience
  • Ability to balance technical quality with commercial outcomes
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

Personal Attributes

  • Approachable and people-focused
  • Self-motivated and dependable
  • Strong communicator (written and verbal)
  • Organised and accountable
  • Calm under pressure
  • Positive, solutions-oriented mindset
  • Able to challenge constructively

Benefits & conditions

  • Salary: £55,000 - £60,000
  • 23 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Additional leave with service
  • Birthday day off
  • Company pension
  • Private medical insurance
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Employee benefits platform
