Contract Role: DevOps Engineer (AWS)
Location: UK (Mostly Remote with Occasional Onsite)
Rate: £550 per day (Inside IR35)
Duration: 6 months (Initial)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced AWS DevOps Engineer to join a high-profile government digital transformation programme. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a large-scale, mission-critical platform that delivers impactful public services.
You will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining scalable, secure, and resilient cloud infrastructure, while driving automation and deployment best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and manage AWS cloud infrastructure in line with best practices
- Build and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to support frequent, reliable releases
- Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and/or CloudFormation
- Deploy and manage containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes
- Collaborate with development and security teams to enhance system reliability and performance
- Monitor, troubleshoot and optimise infrastructure and deployment pipelines
- Ensure compliance with government security standards and policies
Skills & Experience RequiredEssential:
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS (core services, networking, security)
- Proven experience with CI/CD tooling (eg, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar)
- Solid experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and/or CloudFormation)
- Experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Demonstrated experience working on UK Government or public sector projects
- Strong understanding of DevOps principles and agile delivery
Desirable:
- Experience with monitoring/logging tools (eg, CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana)
- Knowledge of security best practices in cloud environments
- Familiarity with serverless architectures
- Experience with platform engineering approaches
