Job description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Quest Designer to join our development team. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a cutting-edge open-world project focused on deep, player-driven storytelling and gameplay.
As a Quest Designer, you will be responsible for both quest and level design within an open-world framework, crafting non-linear quest structures that give players meaningful choices and lasting impact on the world around them. Working closely with writers, designers, artists, and programmers, you will build interconnected quest systems that serve the game's living world and narrative vision.
What You Will Do:
- Design, develop, and implement non-linear quests that support player agency and branch meaningfully based on player decisions
- Build quest structures that influence ongoing storylines and downstream content, rewarding exploration and player-driven choices
- Own both quest and level design within an open-world context, ensuring levels support organic discovery and multiple paths through content
- Collaborate with writers, worldbuilders, artists, and programmers to ensure quests integrate deeply with the game's world, lore, and systemic design
- Partner with dedicated level designers on combat spaces and exploration areas to achieve natural gameplay flow
- Use visual scripting tools to implement quest logic, branching event structures, and detailed mission flow documentation
- Playtest quests and levels, gather feedback, and iterate based on player experience and team insights
- Maintain high-quality standards, ensuring quests are polished, consistent, and free of design or logic issues
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in quest or level design for video games, with a portfolio demonstrating open-world or non-linear quest design
- Hands-on experience designing branching quest structures, player choice systems, and world-reactive narratives
- Proven ability to build character relationships through quest design, with experience crafting suspense-driven narrative missions
- Proficiency in visual scripting tools such as Unreal Engine Blueprints; experience in other engines is a plus
- Experience integrating quest design with world-building and lore
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities; comfortable iterating based on test feedback
- A meticulous approach to quality and design consistency
Benefits & conditions
The base pay range for this position is $80,000 to $150,000 USD per year. Actual pay is based on location and may vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, and experience from the candidate. Total compensation may include salary, company bonuses, sign-on bonuses, relocation package, and other benefits.
