Job description

As a Junior Cybersecurity Engineer, you will help support and improve the agency's cybersecurity tools, systems, and processes while working alongside experienced security professionals. This role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with security technologies, contribute to risk reduction efforts, and help strengthen the agency's overall security posture.

Primary job duties include:

  • Supporting and maintaining cybersecurity tools and technologies related to vulnerability management; Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) & Log Aggregation; Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR); Data Traffic Observability; endpoint security; and security system maintenance
  • Assisting with the design, implementation, and optimization of cloud, hybrid, and on-premises security solutions to strengthen the agency's security posture
  • Participating in security reviews, vulnerability analysis, and technology evaluations to identify risks and recommend security improvements
  • Collaborating with the infrastructure team, SOC, and GRC on vulnerability remediation, system hardening strategies, incident response, security workflow improvements, and security-related requests and changes
  • Assisting senior engineers and architects with researching, testing, configuring, and evaluating security technologies and solutions while supporting project-related security initiatives across the agency

Requirements

  • Collaborative professionals who communicate technical concepts clearly and work effectively across teams with varying levels of technical expertise
  • Curious learners who stay current with evolving cybersecurity threats, tools, and technologies
  • Adaptable team members who can manage multiple priorities and evolving security needs, * A bachelor's degree in information technology systems, computer sciences, or a related field and experience in the information technology field to include experience in a security-focused role
  • Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis
  • Relevant experience or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis with an approved equivalence by the Division of State Human Resources (DSHR)

Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning., * Two years of experience working in a regulated or high-compliance environment

  • One or more certifications such as CompTIA, Security+, GIAC, and ISC2 CC.
  • Key skills: vulnerability management, SIEM, SOAR, firewalls, scripting, and incident response

  • Hours: Work hours are 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday (37.5 hours per week)
  • During critical events or suspected critical events, 24x7 support will be required
  • Telework schedule: This position may be eligible to work remotely up to two days per week after one year of employment with SCDOR
