Job description

The Systems Administrator serves under general supervision of the Director of Core Technology and is based in Madison, WI. Occasional remote work requests may be granted with supervisor approval based on projects and departmental need., This position focuses on the administration of physical and virtual servers, storage, and other hardware. The Systems Administrator is responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting and monitoring which prevent workflow disruptions and services outages. Additionally, the role provides timely technical support with complete documentation of work.

The incumbent reports to the Director of Core Technology. Work is performed and reviewed under general supervision.

Special Requirements:

  • Requires a variable, non-traditional work schedule including some nights and weekends.
  • May requires occasional standby or on-call status, which will be compensated in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
  • Requires occasional in-state travel (10%)., + Your response to three questions will be evaluated in lieu of submitting a cover letter.

The selected candidate must have a valid driver's license that meets the State's Risk Management requirements and provide evidence of auto insurance if using a personal vehicle for work or have the ability to obtain reliable transportation on a consistent basis, Qualified applicants will have experience with EACH of the following:

  • Systems administration such as managing and maintaining servers, physical and virtual machines, network-attached storage systems, and all IT systems, including desktop and server Windows and Linux systems.
  • Maintaining Active Directory environments, especially focusing on creating and tuning Group Policy Objects and applying Principle of Least Privilege to all designs.
  • Providing technical support to end-users for hardware, software and network connectivity issues.

The starting hourly rate for the Systems Administrator (IS Technical Services Senior) position will be between $35.00 - $40.00 per hour ($72,800.00 and $83.200.00 annually), depending on candidate qualifications, plus excellent benefits.

For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period may be required.
