Job description

The Senior Systems Engineer is a foundational technical role at Aegis Terra's Atlanta facility. This engineer owns system-level architecture, requirements definition, and verification strategy across our hardware-software product lines - ensuring that what we design can be built, tested, fielded, and trusted. You will work directly with hardware, firmware, and software engineering teams to drive technical coherence from concept through operational deployment, and you will engage with government customers and program offices as a credible technical voice.

This is not a staff role. You will own problems from identification to closure and be expected to operate with minimal oversight on complex, cross-functional initiatives supporting Aegis Terra FBR, FBT and next-gen data transport and compute platform portfolios.

Key ResponsibilitiesSystems Architecture & Requirements

  • Own system-level architecture across FBT, FBR, and ZTG platforms - driving design decisions for reliability, modularity, maintainability, upgradability, and SWaP-constrained deployment
  • Define, decompose, and maintain verifiable system-level, subsystem-level, and hardware/software interface requirements
  • Partner with hardware, firmware, and software engineers to drive architectural coherence across platform layers
  • Ensure requirements are tightly coupled to the product roadmap and customer-validated capability gaps
  • Identify and drive resolution of cross-team dependencies, interface risks, and integration gaps

Safety, Reliability & Verification

  • Execute System Hazard Analyses (SHAs) and Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FME(C)As) to surface and mitigate system-level risks
  • Define risk reduction, verification, and validation strategies for system-of-systems and subsystem assemblies
  • Interpret and apply relevant defense standards to Aegis Terra development processes:
  • MIL-STD-882 (System Safety)
  • MIL-STD-461 (EMI/EMC)
  • MIL-STD-810 (Environmental)
  • FIPS 140-3 (Cryptographic module validation)
  • STANAG interoperability requirements for allied SOF and NATO integration
  • Maintain traceability from customer requirements through design, test, and acceptance

Integration, Test & Field Support

  • Coordinate and execute test events across integration levels - from lab bench to field demonstration
  • Author and own test plans, test procedures, and verification matrices for hardware-software integrated systems
  • Support field deployments and customer test events as the senior technical representative on-site
  • Diagnose and resolve integration failures across hardware, firmware, software, and network layers in DDIL environments
  • Translate findings from field events into engineering actions and roadmap inputs

Program & Customer Engagement

  • Serve as a credible technical interface to government program offices, acquisition stakeholders, and end-user communities
  • Support proposal development, technical volumes, and SOW/requirement decomposition for new business capture
  • Contribute to engineering documentation supporting CMMC, DFARS, and program-specific compliance requirements
  • Partner with the CEO and BD leads on customer technical briefings and capability demonstrations

Requirements

Do you have experience in Telecommunications spectrum analyzers?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * US Citizenship is required (no duel citizenship please)

  • Secret or TS/SCI eligibility strongly preferred
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken), * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline - Master's degree preferred, * 5+ years of experience in systems engineering within defense, government, or safety-critical industries
  • Demonstrated experience writing verifiable system-level, subsystem-level, and hardware/software interface requirements
  • Hands-on experience conducting safety and reliability analyses: PHAs, SHAs, FME(C)As, or FTAs
  • Proficiency with systems modeling and engineering toolchains (SysML, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalent)
  • Strong software fluency - Python required; experience with embedded systems, Linux, or containerized application environments a strong plus
  • Experience with hardware/software integration and diagnostic tooling:
  • Oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers
  • JTAG/SWD debuggers, serial consoles, and protocol analyzers
  • Automated test frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives autonomously from scoping through closure
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - comfortable presenting to program offices, customers, and senior leadership
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% to support test events and customer engagements, * Experience with edge-compute, tactical communications, or data-transport hardware development
  • Familiarity with DDIL network environments, TAK ecosystem integration, or MANET radio architectures
  • Experience with cryptographic system requirements and FIPS 140-3 / NSA CSfC framework compliance
  • Background in zero trust architecture, network security, or secure enclave design relevant to ZTG development
  • Experience supporting government acquisition programs - OTAs, SBIRs, or FAR-based contracts
  • Prior military service or embedded experience with SOF, AFSOC, USSOCOM, or special mission units
  • Familiarity with CMMC Level 2/3 compliance requirements and DFARS 252.204-7012
  • Experience contributing to proposal technical volumes or CDRLs
  • Hands-on manufacturing, integration, or field testing experience with fielded hardware products

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This is an Atlanta-based role operating out of Aegis Terra's primary engineering facility. Field travel is episodic and mission-driven. Candidates should expect:

  • Lab and bench integration work involving electronic hardware, RF systems, and compute modules
  • Occasional travel (up to 25%) to government facilities, test ranges, and customer sites - CONUS primary, limited OCONUS
  • Ability to lift and move test hardware and equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Flexibility to support extended hours during critical test events or customer deliverable windows

Background Screening/Check/Investigation

Successful completion of a background screening/check/investigation will/may be required as a condition of hire.
