Job description
Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service.
The Train Reporting and Customer Communication Department (TRACC) is responsible for communicating information to Metra customers at stations and on trains via our Station Services, Passenger Services and GPS divisions. TRACC is also responsible for providing customer service, information and ticket sales and oversees the distribution of tickets, maintains station inspections and ADA compliance.
Under the direction of the Train Reporting & Customer Communication (TRACC) Supervisor, provide daily oversight of ACORN system for specific lines.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Monitor assigned rail lines via ACORN, RR radios, Voice of Metra & outside sources for any disruption to normal scheduled service. Make or coordinate Voice of Metra and Visual Voice of Metra announcements and communicate to On-board equipment for announcements on trains. Provide rail line status to Sr. Management and approved requestors. Input delay information from dispatcher reports and conductor TTR1/s into TOPS system. Initiate delay comments in the ACORN system to provide approved users with immediate rail line status. Troubleshoot and apply minor system modifications in the event of workstation or software failure. Monitor overall system and equipment status - report and follow up on failures to ensure 100% system availability. Participate in planning of large events to properly prepare anticipated announcements. This position has various work schedules, including night shift.
Requirements
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED. Some college is preferred.
- Must have one (1) year office experience.
- Basic arithmetic skills, good verbal and written communication, and data entry skills or computer familiarity is required.
- Must be able to type 25 wpm minimum.
Preferences:
- Exposure to and understanding of railroad operations preferred and the ability to read a train schedule.

$30.91-$38.64, This is a Union position. Starting pay rates may vary based on entry rates in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
