Job description

We are seeking a senior-level Proxmox VE Engineer to lead the deployment of a new high-availability Proxmox cluster with shared storage. This role focuses on migrating 19 production Windows Server 2019 virtual machines from Microsoft Hyper-V to Proxmox Virtual Environment (Proxmox VE) using KVM and LXC technologies. The position involves cluster configuration with pvecm, iSCSI integration, network optimization, live migration, and validation to ensure minimal downtime. In this short-term contract, you will serve as the subject matter expert helping drive critical infrastructure modernization while working with advanced virtualization platforms, troubleshooting complex environments, and contributing to long-term HA strategies in a collaborative setting., * Install and configure a 3-node Proxmox VE cluster on Dell R660xs servers using pvecm for cluster management.

  • Integrate PowerStore 500T storage array with Proxmox via iSCSI and FC connectivity for shared storage repositories.
  • Design and implement Proxmox cluster networking with bonds and bridges, separating cluster communication from high-traffic storage paths.
  • Inventory and execute migration of 19 Windows Server 2019 VMs from Microsoft Hyper-V to Proxmox VE KVM/LXC platform.
  • Perform test migrations of non-critical VMs to validate methodology before production cutover in scheduled maintenance windows.
  • Configure high availability features and live migration readiness within the Proxmox environment.
  • Conduct post-migration validation, smoke testing, and documentation of the new Proxmox and PowerStore setup.
  • Deliver knowledge transfer sessions and obtain formal customer sign-off on the completed migration project.
  • Provide expert guidance on production-grade network planning and storage design for Proxmox VE deployments.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Proxmox VE?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * 5+ years of Proxmox VE and virtualization engineering experience.

  • Strong expertise in Proxmox VE
  • Experience with pvecm, KVM, LXC, iSCSI, and/or Hyper-V migrations., * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field is helpful
  • Experience with Dell PowerStore storage and enterprise networking configuration is helpful.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and documentation skills in HA virtualization environments is helpful, * Are you comfortable with part-time / short-term work?
  • Are you able to work during US business hours? (We might be able to be flexible, but prefer availability during the workday)
