Job description
The Computer and Information Systems Administrator is responsible for installing, maintaining, configuring, and supporting computer hardware and software systems. This role ensures reliable, secure, and efficient end-user computing services and provides technical guidance and support to users across the organization. The position plays a key role in maintaining operational continuity, enhancing user productivity, and continuously optimizing the use of IT resources.
This position reports to the Team Lead IT Support and is part of the Genedata Corporate IT team in Basel, Switzerland. This is an on-site position.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Provide first- and second-level technical support to end users via telephone, in person, and online support channels
- Identifies appropriate hardware and software solutions to meet user requirements
- Installs and configures computer hardware and peripheral devices, including monitors, keyboards, printers, and storage drives, ensuring proper operation
- Installs, configures, and maintains software packages such as operating systems, networking components, and standard office applications
- Assists in the customization and adaptation of existing applications to meet user and business needs
- Coordinates activities with network services and information systems teams to ensure seamless service delivery
- Provides regular updates on issue status, progress, and completion to managers and/or users
- Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and resolves hardware and software issues in a timely and professional manner
- Escalates major hardware issues to vendor support and coordinates resolution activities
- Connects users to networks and provides initial training on systems, facilities, and applications
- Continuously seeks opportunities to improve efficiency and identify synergies in hardware and software usage
Requirements
- Minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
- Minimum of two years of experience in system administration across Windows environments (Linux is a plus), including maintaining Windows Active Directory
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team
- Proven ability to handle sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality
Physical/Environment Requirements:
- Ability to lift, move, or carry equipment up to 10 kg; additional physical requirements may include wiring an IT workspace
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Outlook profile and mailbox management & debugging
- Managing and reviewing email objects such as distribution lists and shared mailboxes
- Basic PowerShell scripting
