Job description
Reporting to the EVP, Services and Customer Enablement, we are hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to join the Client Enablement Group. As the new Forward Deployed Engineer, you will operate at the intersection of engineering, AI, operations, and customer outcomes. You will partner with teams across support, services, enablement, onboarding, provisioning, training, and operations to identify friction, eliminate manual processes, and engineer scalable solutions that create measurable business impact. You will tackle ambiguous, high-impact operational challenges where the goal is not simply to automate tasks, but to rethink how work gets done and apply technology where it creates meaningful leverage. You will help modernize workflows, improve scalability, accelerate delivery, and build solutions that drive tangible outcomes across the organization.
This is a hybrid role based out of our Houston office.
What's in it for you
Ownership and influence. This is an opportunity to become the first Forward Deployed Engineer within the Client Enablement Group, helping define how engineering, AI, and automation capabilities are embedded across operational functions at Altus Group. Reporting directly to the EVP, Services and Customer Enablement, you will have significant visibility, autonomy, and executive partnership from day one, with the ability to influence priorities, identify opportunities for operational improvement, and help shape where the organization invests in automation and AI moving forward.
Complex challenges and meaningful impact. You will work on ambiguous, high-impact operational challenges across support, onboarding, provisioning, enablement, services, and training, applying engineering and AI capabilities to rethink how work gets done at scale. This is not a role focused on incremental improvements or maintaining legacy systems. You will have the opportunity to modernize workflows, eliminate friction, improve scalability, and build solutions that create measurable operational and customer impact across one of the largest commercial real estate technology and intelligence organizations in the world.
Innovation and future growth. Altus Group is investing heavily in operational transformation and AI enablement, and this role is expected to evolve alongside that investment. The long-term vision is to build additional forward deployed engineering capability within the organization, creating an opportunity to help establish the foundation, influence the direction of the function, and grow alongside it. You will operate with the speed, ownership, and influence often associated with earlier-stage technology environments while benefiting from the scale, complexity, and global reach of an established enterprise organization. It is an opportunity to join a team actively rethinking what enterprise operations can look like in an AI-enabled future.
As our new Forward Deployment Engineer, you will:
- Partner across operational and enablement functions. You will work closely with leaders and teams across support, services, onboarding, provisioning, enablement, training, and operations to understand workflows, identify friction points, and uncover opportunities to improve how work gets done across the organization.
- Design and build scalable automation solutions. You will engineer solutions that eliminate manual and repetitive processes, applying the right combination of scripting, APIs, platform-native tooling, cloud technologies, and AI-enabled approaches to create measurable operational impact and improve scalability across the business.
- Apply AI to operational challenges. You will leverage AI and large language model technologies to modernize workflows, accelerate delivery, improve decision-making, and create more intelligent operational processes. You will help evaluate where AI creates meaningful leverage, balancing experimentation, practicality, governance, and long-term sustainability.
- Lead discovery, prototyping, and implementation. You will move between problem definition, architecture, prototyping, deployment, iteration, and optimization, rapidly developing and refining solutions that solve complex operational challenges while aligning with enterprise standards and business objectives.
- Improve operational efficiency and service delivery. You will help modernize areas such as provisioning, support operations, enablement delivery, onboarding workflows, and services execution, building solutions that improve speed, consistency, scalability, and the overall customer experience.
- Build trusted partnerships across the business. You will act as a collaborative technical partner to operational leaders and cross-functional teams, translating complex technical concepts into practical business solutions while bringing curiosity, sound judgment, adaptability, and a strong focus on outcomes in a fast-moving environment., * A virtual interview with a Talent Advisor to discuss your interest in joining the company and in the role. The conversation will be recorded using BrightHire, an AI-powered video interview tool. More details will be shared when you are invited to interview.
- An in-person interview in Houston with the EVP, Services and Customer Enablement focused on your approach to problem-solving, operational thinking, technical curiosity, and experience building scalable solutions in complex environments. This conversation will also provide the opportunity to learn more about the vision for the role, the team, and how forward deployed engineering capabilities are expected to evolve within the organization.
- A virtual technical interview with the Chief Architect focused on your engineering approach, technical depth, architecture and automation experience, and ability to design practical, scalable solutions within enterprise environments.
- A final in-person conversation with the EVP, Services and Customer Enablement focused on collaboration, communication style, and your approach to ambiguous, high-impact operational challenges. This discussion will include a whiteboard-style problem-solving exercise exploring how you would approach real-world operational opportunities within the business., Please note that as part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and secure workplace, Altus Group may conduct background checks on candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment. These checks may include, but are not limited to, verification of employment history, education credentials, criminal records, credit history (where relevant), and reference checks. The scope and nature of background checks may vary depending on the role, location, and applicable laws. All background checks will be conducted in compliance with local laws and regulations, and candidates will be informed of any checks required as part of the recruitment process.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Tooling?, * The technical foundation. You have experience building and deploying scalable automation, integration, or software solutions within complex environments. You are comfortable working across APIs, scripting, cloud technologies, AI-assisted development tools, and operational systems, with the ability to move between architecture, prototyping, implementation, and optimization.
- The curiosity and resourcefulness. You are someone who naturally questions how things work and looks for smarter ways to solve problems. You are highly curious, resourceful, and energized by technology, AI, and operational improvement. You explore tools, experiment with ideas, build projects outside of work, or continuously look for ways to improve how things are done because you genuinely enjoy it.
- The operational mindset. You focus on outcomes, not just activity. You are not satisfied with temporary fixes or surface-level improvements and instead work to understand root causes, identify meaningful opportunities for leverage, and build solutions that create lasting impact. You can balance speed with long-term thinking, knowing when to move quickly to validate an idea and when to slow down, stabilize, and build for scale.
- The communication and partnership skills. You are as comfortable working with operational leaders and business stakeholders as you are discussing technical solutions with engineers and architects. You can translate technical concepts into practical business discussions, ask thoughtful questions, explain trade-offs clearly, and build trust across technical and non-technical audiences.
- The adaptability and follow-through. You operate well in ambiguity and are comfortable tackling open-ended, high-impact challenges where not every problem comes with a clear roadmap. You take ownership, follow through on commitments, and can independently navigate complex situations while remaining collaborative, pragmatic, and solutions-oriented.
- The builder mentality. You are someone who likes to roll up your sleeves and create. You are energized by solving complex operational problems, experimenting with new technologies, and applying engineering and AI capabilities in practical ways that improve scalability, efficiency, and customer outcomes.
