Job description
VTG Defense is seeking a Cloud Solutions Architect to support U.S. Air Forces Central (AFCENT) mission systems across NIPR/SIPR and coalition environments. This role leads cloud cost governance, optimization, and cost-sharing implementation for multi-cloud platforms while partnering with AFCENT A6/A8, PMOs, cyber, finance, and the CAOC. The ideal candidate blends FinOps, DoD financial governance, and cloud engineering awareness to deliver audit-ready, mission-aligned outcomes. Responsibilities:

Must be able to be on-site at least 3 days per week.

Optimize and govern cloud spending across Azure Government in IL2-IL6 and coalition environments

Implement tagging strategy and TBM framework to enable mission-level cost transparency

Build forecasts, POM inputs, and execution dashboards with variance analysis for AFCENT leadership

Align cloud financial practices with PPBE, DoD FMR (7000.14-R), and color-of-money rules requirements

Support CI/CD pipelines (GitLab) and Kubernetes-based platforms in secure, multi-tenant environments

Contribute to cloud-native architectures, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), IaC, and compliance-driven reference patterns (RMF, ATO)

Coordinate with engineering, cyber, contracting, finance, and coalition partners to ensure cost decisions support mission and security timelines

Brief senior leaders; translate technical cloud billing into operational and mission impacts
Requirements
Do you have experience in Technical writing?, * CompTIA Security+ certification (or higher)

Experience in DoD or Air Force environments, preferably MAJCOM/COCOM or CAOC operations

Knowledge of PPBE, DoD FMR, WBS, and color-of-money constraints

Hands-on experience with AWS GovCloud and/or Azure Government cloud cost management

Proficiency with Excel and Power BI for financial analysis and reporting

Familiarity with ATO-governed systems, POA&Ms, and IL2-IL6 environments

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred Qualifications

FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) or Advanced Practitioner

Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI

Experience with Cloud One / Platform One, Iron Bank, or DevSecOps pipelines

Scripting (Python/PowerShell) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/ARM/CloudFormation)

Experience supporting software acquisition pathways and cloud contracting mechanisms
