Job description
This role is focused on providing phone-based support for automated field installations and service activations. The Network Engineer will assist field technicians with the configuration, provisioning, testing, and troubleshooting of network equipment and customer services from Core to NID devices.
In this role, the engineer will work directly with field personnel to support automated equipment turn-up processes, validate connectivity, and ensure successful activation of customer internet, video, and voice services. Responsibilities also include supporting Layer 2 and Layer 3 testing for point-to-point circuit connections, verifying service configurations, and assisting with port activations and troubleshooting activities.
Essential Functions
- Provide phone-based technical support to field technicians during automated equipment installations and service activations
- Assist with remote configuration, provisioning, and testing of network equipment and customer services
- Support field personnel with troubleshooting connectivity and service activation issues
- Verify customer internet, video, and voice circuit functionality
- Coordinate and support port turn-ups and Layer 2 / Layer 3 testing for point-to-point circuit connections
- Perform remote access verification to Carrier Network Interface Devices (NIDs)
- Verify fiber optic connectivity including:
- SFP presence
- Light levels
- Wavelength validation
- Single-mode vs. multi-mode SFP compatibility
- Utilize knowledge of enterprise core and access networks to support service delivery and troubleshooting
- Maintain working knowledge of network routing and network operations
- Utilize network device command line interfaces (CLI) for configuration verification and troubleshooting
- Follow customer engineering process guidelines for documentation, communication, and operational procedures
- Communicate clearly and effectively with field technicians, splicers, and internal support teams
- Utilize Granite or similar systems for circuit design and service validation
- Utilize Salesforce or similar order management systems
- Support continuous improvement of automated installation and activation processes

Additional preferred knowledge:
- Fiber transport technologies including DWDM and CWDM
- Enterprise networking concepts and troubleshooting
- Carrier Ethernet, Layer 2, and Layer 3 services
- Network testing methodologies
Qualifications
- CCNA, JNCIA, or equivalent networking experience preferred
- Experience supporting telecommunications or carrier network environments preferred
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues in a fast-paced support environment
- On-the-job training will be provided to expand technical knowledge and operational processes
