Job description

CGI Federal is seeking a Mainframe Developer to support a large federal agency's enterprise application ecosystem. This role focuses on the development, enhancement, and sustainment of mission-critical mainframe applications and batch processing systems within a z/OS environment. The position requires strong technical expertise in legacy systems and the ability to support integration with modern enterprise platforms.

This position is located in Woodlawn, MD.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

. Design, develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe applications and batch processes in support of enterprise systems.

. Develop and maintain batch job workflows, including scheduling, monitoring, and error resolution.

. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support integration between mainframe and distributed systems, APIs, and enterprise services.

. Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues, including defect triage, root cause analysis, and system performance concerns.

. Write and maintain technical documentation, including program specifications, job flows, and operational procedures.

. Support testing activities, including unit, integration, and regression testing, ensuring adherence to quality standards.

. Participate in Agile ceremonies and provide regular status updates, deliverables, and development logs.

. Ensure system reliability, data integrity, and compliance with agency standards and security requirements.

Requirements

Proven experience leveraging advanced JCL utilities to develop, maintain, and troubleshoot mainframe systems and batch jobs

. Intermediate level COBOL / JCL / REXX / Control-M / Dialog Manager knowledge and working skills

. Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance

. Bachelor's degree + 7 years of relevant IT experience (or equivalent)

. Proven experience developing and supporting applications in IBM z/OS mainframe environments

. Strong experience with COBOL development, JCL, and mainframe data processing

. Experience working with DB2, CICS, TSO/ISPF, and standard IBM utilities

. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills within batch and online systems

. Experience with job scheduling tools (e.g., Control-M or equivalent)

. Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Desired qualifications/non-essential skills required:

. Experience supporting federal agencies or large enterprise mainframe environments

. Familiarity with CLIST or automation frameworks

. Experience with mainframe modernization or integration with distributed/cloud platforms

. Working knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, or automated testing in hybrid environments

. Exposure to API integration frameworks such as z/OS Connect or similar technologies, * BMC Control-M

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $70,800.00 - $156,700.00.
