Job description
Sierra Technologies is seeking an IT Systems Administrator to support daily operations across a hybrid IT environment. This role works closely with a senior system administrator to maintain infrastructure, execute security and compliance tasks, and provide reliable end-user support.
This position is ideal for someone who is technically strong, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently on assigned tasks, while escalating complex issues and architecture decisions as needed.
This is an on-site position in Southern Maryland (St. Mary's County), with the option to telework one day per week., * Systems & Identity -Manage Active Directory and Azure AD user accounts, access provisioning, group policies, and SSO/conditional access support.
- Endpoint Management - Support 80+ systems and 100+ users with patching, vulnerability remediation, endpoint monitoring, hardware deployments, and remote/VPN connectivity.
- Microsoft 365 - Administer Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive; handle licensing, service health monitoring, and assist with GCC High migration.
- Network & Security - Assist with firewall and network device management, monitor logs, support email filtering and endpoint security tools.
- Compliance Support - Help maintain CMMC Level 2, NIST SP 800-171, and DFARS documentation including asset inventories, network diagrams, and audit artifact collection.
- Help Desk - Resolve user tickets, troubleshoot hardware/software/access issues, and support onboarding and offboarding.
- Vendor & Asset - Assist with software licensing, asset tracking, and vendor coordination.
Requirements

Must have:
- 3+ years of experience in IT systems administration or similar role
- Hands-on experience with:
- Active Directory and basic Azure AD administration
- Microsoft 365 (Exchange, Teams, SharePoint)
- Windows endpoint management and patching
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (VPNs, firewalls, VLANs)
- Familiarity with security best practices and compliance environments
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with good judgment on escalation
- Active security clearance or ability to obtain a clearance
Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship and be able to obtain a security clearance
Nice to Have:
- Experience in government contracting or DoD environments
- Exposure to CMMC or NIST 800-171 frameworks
- Familiarity with GCC or GCC High environments
- Experience with Fortinet or similar networking tools
- Relevant certifications (Security+, Network+, or Microsoft certifications)
