Job description

An opportunity for a Software Developer - Aircraft Performance Tools has arisen within Airbus Operations, Getafe (Madrid).

The selected candidate will join the Airbus Flight Physics Capability Operations team (1GZC). We are a transnational team responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining a rich portfolio of Aircraft Performance Modelling & Simulation tools. We develop software that enables our aircraft to fly safely and efficiently in all flight phases and equip aircraft avionics systems with on-board performance data.

This specific role will focus on developing On-Board Aircraft Performance tools to generate, control, and deliver aircraft performance databases embedded in avionics functions (like the Flight Management System) across all Airbus families. Furthermore, you will work with simulation tools that emulate these embedded functions. This position involves close collaboration with the local end-user community within Airbus Commercial Aircraft, as well as with Airbus Defence & Space, particularly concerning applications for the A400M program., The main tasks of the jobholder will be:

  • Requirements & Specifications: Capture, understand, and translate internal Airbus end-users' needs into tangible objectives, software specifications, and user stories.
  • Software Implementation: Implement required software modifications with the support of an experienced subcontracting software development team.
  • Testing & Verification: Perform software verification testing, including the definition of robust acceptance criteria.
  • User Support: Support end-users in Airbus Commercial Aircraft & Airbus Defence & Space by investigating and resolving identified problems in a timely manner.
  • Project Management: Manage administrative and project tasks associated with the software tools portfolio, including subcontracting activities.
  • Continuous Growth: Learn and understand business processes across Flight Physics and especially Aircraft Performance to improve the tool landscape.

Requirements

  • Education: Aeronautical, Industrial, Software Engineering degree or a related discipline.
  • Technical knowledge: Good software development skills and solid knowledge of Linux environments and DevOps / CI/CD tools (Git, Jenkins, Artifactory…).
  • Soft skills: High adaptability, enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity, and a 'can-do' attitude to effectively interact with local & transnational teams, subcontractors, and customers.
  • Languages: Advanced level in English (essential for daily work within this transnational team).
  • Valuable / Nice to have: * Experience with the application of DO-200 Standards (Processing Aeronautical Data).
  • Experience or knowledge in Python, C/C++, Java, Matlab, SimuLINK & Fortran (all part of our tool portfolio).
  • General knowledge of Flight Physics, Aircraft Performance, or Airline Operations.
