Job description

The contractor will execute a pilot data modernization initiative for a large multi-campus higher education system, using AI-assisted development to inventory, prioritize, and migrate decentralized campus reporting assets from a legacy on-premises Oracle environment to Microsoft Fabric. Work spans automated metadata discovery across Access, Excel, Power BI, and SQL Server objects; building Bronze/Silver/Gold data layers in Fabric; refactoring existing campus reporting assets to Fabric endpoints; and producing validated, documented, repeatable deliverables that can scale to 33 institutions after the pilot.

Requirements

  • 10+ years enterprise data engineering, analytics, or data architecture
  • 5+ years advanced SQL
  • 5+ years advanced Python
  • 5+ years ETL/ELT and data modeling
  • 3+ years active AI-assisted development (e.g., GitHub Copilot)
  • 3+ years PySpark
  • 3+ years building large-scale data transformations in Microsoft Fabric lakehouse

Desired Skills

  • Experience migrating from Oracle to a modern cloud data platform
  • Familiarity with higher education data environments
  • Experience in multi-institutional or federated data architectures
  • Ability to build scalable migration frameworks, not one-off solutions
  • Experience with Microsoft Access, Power BI, and Excel Power Query modernization
