Job description

The Lead Data Scientist is responsible for collecting data and using a wide range of data science techniques, including but not limited to data wrangling, profiling and visualization, statistical inference, to uncover actionable insights or build analytics solutions that guide decision making and strategic planning.

In addition, the Lead Data Scientist provides oversight and consultative advice and guidance to others as the lead or top Data Scientist with enterprise or significant cross business mandate. This role may also evaluate, investigate and identify technical solutions and provide leading-edge techniques and lead innovation to create methodologies to solve a wide array of complex business or enterprise issues., This role under FCRM group will lead, develop, and oversee a team of professionals who supports, policies, standards, and provide oversight, expert policy and regulatory guidance, and advice related to TD's Currency Transaction (CTR) compliance programs. Provide strategic and day-to-day direction on a broad range of complex CTR program activities, including operational support, providing governance and support, and addressing and escalating related issues. Oversee the timely execution of periodic and event-driven reviews using a risk-based approach to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements. Serve as the primary escalation point for CTR matters or exceptions. Identifies and implements risk mitigation strategies for findings from risk assessments, audit findings, regulatory exams, and potential violations of law. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders (such as auditors and regulators) to provide necessary documentation and support during audits and examinations related to CTR regulatory compliance.

  • Exceptionally leads and runs analytical projects autonomously and creates and effectively delivers analytical presentations for executive audiences/stakeholders
  • Showcases advanced level peer leadership, impacts and influences partner, and may mentor/coach peers
  • Extensive understanding of the business supported and the overall bank with deep expertise and highly specialized knowledge of analytical concepts and techniques
  • Acts as a key business partner, guides and collaborates with business leaders to prioritize and identify key business needs and provides impactful analytical insights, * Works closely with business owners to identify opportunities and serves as an ambassador for data science
  • Is familiar with the business context and data infrastructure and can translate business problems to viable data science solutions
  • Uses a wide range of programing languages (e.g. Python) and techniques for extracting and preparing data, applying statistics and various advanced analytics, along with business acumen to extract insights from the big data
  • Visualizes insights from the data to tell and illustrate stories that clearly convey the meaning of results to decision-makers and stakeholders at every level of technical understanding
  • Collaborates with other partners, such as data and business analysts, software engineers, data engineers, and application developers to develop scalable and sustainable data science solutions that retains long term benefit to the business
  • Provides deep technical leadership and expertise to support and define future direction in one or more specialized areas or leads strategic development efforts on new or emerging data science related projects
  • Plays a lead role on cross functional teams of data scientists, data analysts, data engineers, and business process owners to build cutting edge analytic solutions

  • Keeps abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assesses potential impacts

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or advanced technical degree preferred (e.g., math, physics, engineering, finance or computer science) Graduate's degree preferred with either progressive project work experience, or;
  • 7+ year of relevant experience; higher degree education and research tenure can be counted

Preferred Skillset :

  • 10+ years of experience in an AML or Risk Management background.
  • Extensive experience on FinCEN Currency Transaction reporting regulation
  • Advanced Knowledge of best practice of data controls to mitigate data risk in the space of AML; solid understanding of how data is enabling AML capabilities/use cases, able to explain "so-what" from AML risk & control perspective.
  • Advanced knowledge of common design of source to consumption data pipeline, leveraging the Bank's data lake, as well as ETL.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Three Lines of Defense in a risk management framework.
  • Strong and demonstrated storytelling, writing (memos, procedures, slides), and presentation skills, to executive audience and the audience of Governance and Audit.
  • Excellent at prioritizing in an environment where there are constant competing priorities and time-sensitive regulatory requests
  • Highly organized and diligent individual with the ability to manage multiple workstreams
  • Knowledge of Actimize CTR and ActOne is a plus
