Job description
- Participate in application and software maintenance work and provides trouble shooting services to user groups.
- Participates in special programs and performs other duties as assigned.
- Collect and analyze lab members requirements, design and build data and function flows and participating in programming work, including the implementation of information systems and participation in the formulation of procedures as they relate to functional areas.
- Perform intensive analysis of human genome genotype and sequence data for gene discovery in complex human disease, and other application and system programming as needed.
- Adapt existing and develop novel software applications for a growing computing and analysis development team in human disease genomics.
- Develop computational expertise in genetics and develop technology to support analysis dynamically using Perl, JavaScripts, JAVA, and ColdFusion.
- Participate in the deployment of Web-based software applications, and related information search and retrieval systems.
- Help to design and implement for the developing web-base applications.
- Document for all software, code, and experiments.
- Ensure the integrity and security of data, code, and experiments.
- Participate in writing related technical reports and/or publications.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Word processing?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, The Associate Bioinformatics Programmer is a critical member of Dr. Aravinda Chakravarti's lab and will perform intensive analysis of human genome genotype and sequence data for gene discovery in complex human disease. We seek an individual to participate in whole genome sequencing analysis from our Hischsprung disease collection. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of the biology of human genetics as well as bioinformatic skills. The individual will adapt existing and develop novel software applications for a growing computing and analysis development team in human disease genomics; work collaboratively with other lab members, but also complete projects on time and independently; and develop computational expertise in genetics., To qualify you must have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/ Math/ Statistics/Physics/Information Science or related technical discipline. Strong programming skills in Matlab, R, C/C++, Perl/Python. Must be able to work in a demanding and dynamic team environment and work independently. Knowledge of algorithms and data-structures. Experience with Web-based application development languages such as HTML/JavaScript, ColdFusion, ASP/JSP. Experience with windows and Unix/Linux operating systems; ability to read and write technical documentation; proficiency in the use of software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing required. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written required.
Preferred Qualifications: PhD preferred
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
