Job description
You are a senior designer joining a Digital Finance team at Siemens Energy, Transformation of Industries, in the middle of a digital transformation. There is no design practice yet - you will build it. Working closely with the Solution Architect, Product Owners, and an engineering team spanning data, AI, and business intelligence development, you will define the design system, shape the user experience of our financial intelligence products, and set the standard for how finance professionals across a €6B business interact with data, agents, and self-service tools.
Your day moves between discovery and delivery. In the morning you might be running a focus group with a group of business controllers to validate a dashboard layout. By afternoon you are mapping end-to-end user experience journeys, determining how to remove friction and ease adoption. You work in sprints, with strong opinions on what makes a finance professional's experience excellent - and the prototyping discipline to prove it.
This is a rare opportunity to establish UX as a first-class capability inside a digital finance function that is genuinely investing in becoming a product organization.
How You'll Make An Impact
- Design System & Product Experience (primary focus): Establish and own the Digital Finance design system: component library, templates, interaction patterns, and visual language - ensuring consistency across all products and tools.
- Design seamless, frictionless experiences for finance professionals across reporting, self-service analytics, AI-assisted workflows, and process digitalization products.
- Translate requirements from Product Owners into user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes that developers can build from and stakeholders can evaluate.
- Own design documentation: annotated specifications, interaction guidelines, and handoff artifacts that eliminate ambiguity for engineering teams.
- User Research & Validation: Lead focus groups and usability testing sessions with end users - business controllers, commercial project managers, sales controllers, and manufacturing controllers - to validate designs before development begins.
- Synthesize user feedback into actionable design iterations, maintaining a continuous feedback loop across the product lifecycle.
- Develop user journey maps and persona-based design thinking artifacts in close collaboration with Product Owners to ground product decisions in real user behavior.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work within the solution architecture framework set by the Solution Architect to ensure design coherence across the full product ecosystem.
- Partner with Product Owners (Data Products, Intelligence Products, CRM Digitalization) to align design priorities with product roadmaps and RICE-based prioritization.
- Collaborate daily with data engineers, AI/ML engineers, and BI developers to ensure implementation fidelity - bridging the gap between design intent and delivered product.
- Contribute actively to agile ceremonies: sprint planning, backlog refinement, design reviews, and retrospectives.
- AI-Assisted Design Practice: Champion an AI-assisted design workflow across the team - using tools to accelerate ideation, component generation, and design iteration.
- Help establish AI-augmented design as a standard practice within the team's DevOps and agile delivery model.
- Front-End Contribution (where capacity allows): Apply front-end development skills to support implementation, prototype interactive concepts, or resolve visual inconsistencies in delivered products.
- Working knowledge of analytics and visualization environments (Power BI, Streamlit) is a meaningful advantage in this role.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a UI/UX designer on digital product teams, with a strong portfolio demonstrating work on data-intensive, enterprise, or process digitalization products.
- Demonstrated ability to build or significantly mature a design system or component library in a product environment.
- Proven experience running user research: facilitated interviews, usability tests, or focus groups with business or enterprise end users.
- Experience designing for data and analytics contexts - dashboards, reporting interfaces, self-service tools, or workflow digitalization. Finance persona experience is a strong plus.
- Expert-level proficiency in Figma, or similar tools, including auto layout, component architecture, prototyping, and developer handoff.
- Strong visual design sensibility - typography, hierarchy, spacing, and accessibility - applied to functional enterprise interfaces, not just consumer products.
- Ability to operate across fidelity levels: from fast lo-fi sketches to polished, spec-ready high-fidelity designs.
- Active and fluent use of AI-assisted design tools (e.g., Figma AI, Galileo, v0, Uizard, or similar) to accelerate design output and ideation.
- A mindset of design leverage - using AI not as a shortcut but as a multiplier on design quality and iteration speed.
- Comfortable working as the only designer on a cross-functional product team, with the maturity to advocate for design quality without requiring a design organization around you.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting design rationale to both technical and business stakeholders across cultures and time zones.
- Fluency in agile delivery: Jira, sprint rituals, backlog refinement, and version-controlled design assets.
- Familiarity with version control tools and DevOps principles as they apply to design assets (e.g., Figma branching, design tokens, handoff via GitLab or equivalent).
- Front-end skills: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React - enough to prototype in code or accelerate developer implementation.
- Exposure to data visualization tools: Power BI, Tableau, SAP Analytics Cloud, or Streamlit.
- Awareness of accessibility standards (WCAG) and how to apply them in enterprise product design.
