Job description
We believe that through collaboration and connection with our colleagues we can achieve great things. Our hybrid working approach allows our people to work both in the office and at home, providing the flexibility and resources you need to succeed in your role. We don't require you to be in on specific days; instead, we ask people to come into the office 2-3 days each week. You should work with your line manager to understand what their expectations are for you, your specific role and your team., The Data & Analytics team is undertaking a major transformation to migrate from a fragmented legacy estate to a scalable, cloud native, Unified Data Platform. The Data Architect plays a critical role in the Data Architecture squad, responsible for designing the conceptual and logical schemas for the "Trusted Data Layer." Working under the Lead Data Architect, this role translates business requirements into robust technical designs using Lakehouse Architecture and Data Vault 2.0 standards. The position focuses on ensuring that data ingestion, processing, and consumption are fully governed, reducing "Shadow D&A" practices and retiring legacy technical debt to create a single, audit-ready ecosystem. Key Roles & Responsibilities
Design and maintain conceptual and logical data models for the Unified Data Platform (UDP), utilising Data Vault 2.0 methodology (Hubs, Links, Satellites) to ensure historical auditability and business alignment. Define architectural patterns for the Trusted Data Layer, ensuring data is curated, standardised, and ready for enterprise consumption. Collaborate with Data Engineers to translate architectural designs into efficient SQL transformation logic, ensuring alignment between strategy and execution. Map complex legacy source systems to the new Lakehouse Architecture, driving the migration strategy from fragmented platforms (e.g., Oracle, Teradata) to the Unified Data Platform Data Vault. Implement data governance standards, including metadata management, lineage, and data quality rules, to ensure "Gold Standard" datasets. Provide architectural consultancy to agile delivery squads, ensuring solutions adhere to architectural policies and practices. Support the creation of data products that enable self-service analytics and reduce "Shadow D&A" practices.
Requirements
Demonstrable experience in data modelling for enterprise platforms, specifically with deep knowledge of Data Vault 2.0 and dimensional modelling. Strong technical understanding of Lakehouse Architecture and modern cloud platforms. Experience rearchitecting fragmented legacy systems (e.g., Oracle, Teradata) to unified, governed platforms. Knowledge of data governance frameworks, including metadata management, data lineage tools, and data quality automated testing. Ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable, secure technical data designs.
