Job description

SC Cleared - SQL Developer/DBA

Location: Hybrid - 3 days per week in Stratford

Rate: £400-£500/day - OUTSIDE IR35

Duration: 3 months (initial)

Start: ASAP

Security Clearance: Active SC required (non-negotiable)

We're working with a leading consultancy on a critical public sector programme, and are looking for an experienced SQL Developer/Database Specialist to join on an initial 3-month contract.

This is a hands-on role focused on high-performance SQL development and database optimisation within a complex, enterprise-scale data environment. You'll play a key role in ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability across critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tuning and optimising complex SQL queries at scale
  • Designing and maintaining robust database architectures (OLTP/OLAP)
  • Supporting a multi-layered ecosystem including SQL Server, IIS, and Elasticsearch
  • Building and maintaining ETL pipelines and data integration processes
  • Ensuring data integrity, security, and performance across systems

Experience Required

  • Strong background in SQL Development/Database Engineering/DBA roles
  • Deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL)
  • Advanced SQL skills including CTEs, joins, subqueries, and performance tuning
  • Experience working with at least one additional RDBMS (eg PostgreSQL or MySQL)
  • Proven ability to hit the ground running in fast-paced, delivery-focused environments

  • Elasticsearch
  • Familiarity with performance tuning tools (eg Execution Plans, Profiler, Query Store)
