Senior Systems Engineer

We are seeking a Senior System Engineer to lead technical modernization efforts for Mobility Air Force (MAF) and Combat Air Force (CAF) platforms.

In this role, you will be the technical pivot point for our Agile Release Train, ensuring that complex mission requirements are translated into executable technical specifications. A strong understanding of system contracts, interface development, and REST APIs is critical to this position, as you will be responsible for defining how data moves between enterprise sources, ground stations, and airborne platforms.

You will operate within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), facilitating the transition from legacy hardware/software baselines to modern, open architectures while leveraging the Atlassian suite to manage technical baselines., * API & Interface Strategy: Define and manage the technical "contracts" between systems. You must have a deep understanding of how to architect REST APIs and data exchanges to ensure seamless integration between legacy avionics and modern software containers.

• Data Mobility Architecture: Design resilient data flows that enable dynamic re-planning. You will determine exactly how mission data is requested from enterprise systems, transported to the edge (air platform), and how platform insights are returned to the ground.
• Integration Specification: Author and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and OpenAPI specifications that serve as the source of truth for software and hardware integration teams.

2. SAFe & Agile Execution

• Technical Decomposition: Collaborate with Product Management to break down high-level Epics into precise Features and User Stories. Ensure acceptance criteria accounts for specific API behaviors and interface constraints.
• PI Planning: Lead technical discussions during Program Increment (PI) planning, identifying dependencies between platform capabilities and enterprise data sources.
• System Demos: Verify that implemented interfaces and APIs function as designed during System Demos, ensuring the solution meets the operational intent.

3. Modernization, Tooling & Capability Delivery

• Warfighter Capability Development: Rapidly architect and support the delivery of platform-agnostic solutions. This includes designing or overseeing the creation of web and tablet-based applications that provide direct, tangible capabilities to the warfighter when required.
• Visual Communication: Use draw.io to create clear, accurate architectural views that communicate complex data flows to stakeholders (replacing rigid, heavy-weight DoDAF modeling).
• Atlassian Management: Utilize Jira, Confluence, and BitBucket to manage the configuration of requirements and trace them directly to technical implementations.

• Experience: 8+ years of prior relevant experience.
• Clearance: Must possess an active Secret security clearance.
• Interface & API Expertise: Critical experience designing system interfaces and defining technical contracts. Must be fluent in concepts regarding REST APIs, data payloads (JSON/XML), and service-oriented architectures.
• Containerization: Strong understanding of containerization principles, specifically Docker and Kubernetes.
• Programming Knowledge: Basic understanding of programming languages to effectively collaborate with software teams; preference for Java.
• Domain Experience: Experience with Air Force platforms (MAF/CAF), avionics systems, or tactical data integration.
• Agile Experience: Proven experience working in a SAFe or Agile development environment., * Do you have a minimum of 8 years relevant experience
