Job description
The Vehicle Operator & Data Analytics role supports Aptiv's Autonomous Driving development by capturing high - quality driving data and providing meaningful insights to engineering teams. You will operate test vehicles across Wuppertal and the NRW region - an area ideal for ADAS/AD testing due to its mix of Urban environments , Narrow and hilly roads , Tunnels, bridges, sharp , curvature and varied traffic conditions . This role is ideal for students interested in Autonomous Driving, ADAS validation, vehicle testing, and data analytics . You will gain hands - on experience with cutting - edge AD systems in real - world environments., Vehicle Operations
- Safely drive prototype - level ADAS/AD vehicles across Wuppertal and nearby cities (Düsseldorf, Cologne, Dortmund, Essen, Solingen).
- Operate on defined and exploratory routes with changing road topology, weather, and traffic conditions wit h Route Intelligance Tool at Aptiv
- Maintain full readiness to take over control when the system disengages - smoothly and without over - correction.
Data Collection & Equipment Handling
- Operate in - vehicle DAQ (Data Acquisition) systems: start/stop logs, event tagging, monitoring sensors, and simple debugging.
- Follow daily test plans, perform vehicle readiness checks, and ensure high - quality data capture.
Feedback & Observation
- Provide structured, objective feedback about vehicle behavior, near- miss situations, system hesitation, or unexpected actions.
- Identify environment types that commonly challenge AD systems (e.g., Wuppertal's sharp curves, elevation changes, pedestrian crossings).
Data Analytics & Safety Evaluation
- Analyze human - driving vs. AD system driving behavior.
- Potential and related events - collision safety - Non , Safety interventions Support investigations of collision scenarios
- Contribute to defining scenario-based metrice for German/European driving conditions (e.g., based metrics - scenario Contribute to defining Autobahn merging, roundabouts, bike lanes).
Requirements
- Strong and responsible driving habits valid EU B - class driver's license with no major accident class driver's license - valid EU B Strong and responsible driving habits history.
- 2 + years of driving or vehicle testing experience (university projects acceptable).
- High situational awareness and ability to multitask while driving.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to give clear feedback., * Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Mobility, , Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or Data Science .
- Understanding of ADAS/Autonomous Driving concepts: ACC, AEB/PEB Lane Keeping / Highway Assist, Sensor perception (camera, radar, LiDAR)
- Knowledge of roads, geography, and driving challenges around Wuppertal and NRW .
- Experience giving structured feedback or conducting test drives.
- Ability to interpret sensor or vehicle performance data.
- Basic Python or data analysis exposure (optional but beneficial).
Traits We're Seeking
- Curious mindset: You naturally ask why things happen.
- Analytical thinker: Able to break down complex behavior logically.
- Hands - on learner: Comfortable learning by doing and experimenting.
- Resilient: Views challenges as opportunities to improve.
- Clear communicator: Able to summarize observations concisely.
What Students Will Gain
- Experience with real ADAS/AD systems used globally.
- Exposure to vehicle data pipelines , DM&A workflows, and test engineering.
- Understanding of German/European road complexities in AD driving.
- Close collaboration with engineering teams in Germany, Poland, US, and India.
