Job description

As a Renewable & Data Analyst, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality data insights that support SONI's renewable energy and market activities.

You will be responsible for extracting, analysing and transforming complex datasets into meaningful outputs, including renewable publications, reporting obligations and market insights. Alongside this, you will develop and maintain analytical tools, modernise legacy code, and build intuitive dashboards to support internal decision-making.

Acting as a central data specialist within the team, you will collaborate across SONI, engage with external stakeholders, and help shape how data is managed and utilised across systems and projects.

The role combines strong technical capability with communication skills, enabling you to translate data-driven insights for a range of audiences and contribute to wider industry engagement.

This is a dynamic role suited to someone who enjoys working with data, driving innovation and supporting the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy system., * Extract data for regular renewable publications, annual renewable reporting obligations, and distribution to external stakeholders.

  • Develop performance monitoring algorithms using coding tools for team use.
  • Maintain existing code and convert legacy code (e.g. Visual Basic) to modern programming languages such as Python.
  • Develop Tableau dashboards for internal audiences.
  • Act as a representative in key internal and external engagements (e.g. Utility Regulator, government departments, and industry forums).
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for data extraction and manipulation across team projects, both small and large.
  • Liaise with the internal IT team to ensure future databases and systems meet evolving business requirements.
  • Produce a range of internal and external reports on market data.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Visual Basic?, * Degree in a technical, analytical, or coding-related discipline, with a minimum of 2 years' experience

  • Ability to extract and analyse large datasets from multiple systems using code
  • Ability to update and convert legacy code, macros, or scripts into modern formats
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues clearly and confidently
  • Ability to adapt, innovate, respond to changing demands, and independently develop practical solutions
  • Ability to work effectively within a wider team of engineers and analysts, and collaboratively with counterparts in other TSOs such as EirGrid

Desirable:

  • Understanding of the Northern Ireland Transmission System
  • Detailed knowledge of the energy sector
